Thanks for sharing your experience with the amplifier issue. That seems very similar to my problem, especially since my car speakers went silent across all audio sources too. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost in the end? Just trying to get an idea before I take it in. Also curious if youve had any other Bluetooth issues or problems with the USB audio since getting it fixed? The volume control and display working but having no sound is exactly what Im experiencing. Definitely going to check those fuses first before booking it in.

After taking it to the workshop last week, they diagnosed and fixed the audio system issue, turned out one of the Bass speakers was completely defective and causing the whole system to fail. Total repair came to 280€, which included diagnostic time and replacement parts. Since the fix, the sound quality is perfect again. No more connectivity problems with any audio source, radio, Bluetooth and USB audio all working as they should. The volume control and auxiliary input are also back to normal. Really glad I had it properly checked instead of trying DIY solutions, as these audio systems can be quite complex to diagnose correctly. It was worth every cent considering how much we rely on car audio these days. No issues whatsoever in the two weeks since the repair, and the sound is actually better than before the problem started.

After checking the fuses and finding no issues, I took my Golf to the workshop yesterday. Great news, it was actually a simple fix! Turns out there was a loose connection in the main wiring harness behind the head unit that was interrupting signal to the car speakers. The mechanic cleaned the contacts and secured the connection properly. Only cost me 90€ for an hours labor, much better than I feared after hearing about potential amplifier issues. The sound system is now working perfectly again across all inputs. Radio, auxiliary input, and Bluetooth are all clear as day. What a relief, was worried Id be facing a major repair. Really glad I had it checked out quickly before trying any DIY fixes that might have made things worse. The USB audio and all other features are back to normal, and the sound quality is exactly as it should be.

Had the same audio connectivity issue on my 2011 VW Passat TDI. The sound system went completely dead despite the head unit appearing to function normally. After thorough diagnostics, it turned out the amplifier module under the driver seat had failed, causing total radio silence across all audio sources. The diagnosis process revealed water damage from a blocked sunroof drain, which leaked onto the amplifier. This is actually a known weak point in several VW models from that era. The repair required removing the seat, replacing the amplifier unit, and checking all sound system connections. The volume control and display continued working throughout, but the underlying amp issue prevented any audio output. This was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment to properly test the amplifier and verify the fix. In your Golf TDI case, since it happened suddenly without warning signs, it could be similar amplifier failure or a blown fuse, though fuse issues usually trigger warning messages. Before workshop visit, worth checking: All fuses related to audio, Speaker connections behind head unit, Reset the infotainment system, Test each input source separately, Verify speaker settings havent reset to zero Given the symptoms match the amplifier failure pattern, recommend having it checked by a VW specialist who can properly test the sound quality through the whole system.
