Thanks for sharing that detailed experience with your door locking system repair. Had very similar symptoms on my 2020 Golf last winter. The door contact signal started acting up and eventually the automatic locks completely failed. How much did you end up paying for the full repair job? Mine cost around 850€ including parts and labor but curious if that was reasonable. Also wondering if youve had any electrical issues or car sensor problems since getting it fixed? My car alarm occasionally gives a false trigger but nothing major so far.

Had my car back from the shop last week actually. Much simpler fix than initially feared, the door contact signal issue was traced to a loose cable connection in the door latch assembly. No need for complete harness replacement like in my previous repair. The mechanic spotted and fixed the faulty connection in about an hour. Total bill came to 95€, which included testing the door sensor and car alarm system afterward. Much better outcome than my previous expensive repair. Since the fix, everything works perfectly, no false car alarm triggers or sensor issues. The automatic locks respond instantly now, and the door latch is functioning as it should. Sometimes these electrical gremlins turn out to be basic connection problems rather than major component failures. Worth having a proper diagnostic check done rather than assuming the worst, as simple fixes can often resolve what seems like a complex issue.

I took my car to the mechanic last week after reading about these similar experiences. The symptoms matched exactly, faulty door contact signal and complete failure of the automatic locks. Really worried it would be an expensive repair like the corroded wire harness issue. Turns out the door sensor was just loose and needed adjustment. The mechanic also cleaned the door latch connections while checking the system. Total repair only cost 120€ and took about 2 hours including testing. No issues with the car alarm or door switches since the fix. Looking back, I probably worried too much about worst-case scenarios. Sometimes these electrical issues have simple solutions. Just glad to have working automatic locks again and no more frustrating security system glitches.

As a Golf GTE hybrid 2018 owner, I encountered a similar automatic locks malfunction. The door contact signal was disrupted due to a corroded wire harness connecting the main door latch to the central locking system. The issue first appeared when the car alarm started triggering out of nowhere, followed by complete failure of the central locking system. The main door switch stopped sending proper contact signals to the control unit. Our mechanic found that moisture had penetrated the driver side door wiring, causing multiple connection failures in the door latch assembly. The repair required: Complete replacement of the door wiring harness, New door latch mechanism, Recalibration of the central locking system This was classified as a serious electrical system repair since it affected both security and safety functions. The door switch and latch assembly are integral parts of the cars security system, controlling both the automatic locks and alarm functions. The complete repair took a full working day, requiring specialized diagnostic equipment to properly sync the new components with the vehicles central computer.
