Thanks for the detailed write-up on the antenna repair. My Fox had identical symptoms, remote locking stopped working and I needed the physical key. The radio signal was also weak, which confirmed the car antenna was the culprit. Got it fixed last month but curious about your repair costs. Had to replace the fm antenna wiring due to water damage, plus labor for accessing the front bumper area. How much did you end up paying for the full repair? Also wondering if youve had any signal interference issues since the fix? Would be helpful to know if the repair held up well, as Im still monitoring mine for any recurring problems.

The fm antenna repair ended up costing 95€ total, which covered both the wiring fix and labor to access the bumper area. Really reasonable considering the delicate work involved with the vehicle antenna components. Since having the cable connection repaired, the antenna signal has been perfect. No more remote locking issues or radio interference problems. The antenna replacement was definitely worth it, saved me from potentially more expensive repairs down the line if water damage had spread to other components. My Polo hasnt shown any antenna-related problems in the months following the repair. The mechanic mentioned these antenna repair jobs are pretty common on VW models, especially when water gets into the front bumper area where the main antenna module sits. Good call getting yours fixed when you did. Keep an eye on it during wet weather, but if its properly sealed now, you shouldnt see those signal issues come back.

Had my car checked last week and the diagnosis confirmed what everyone suggested, water damage to the antenna wiring was the root cause. Found a different mechanic who specialized in electrical issues and fm antenna repairs. Total cost came to 120€ for parts and labor. More expensive than expected but the mechanic showed me the corroded car antenna cables and explained the whole repair process. They had to remove part of the front bumper to access and replace the damaged wiring. Happy to report the fix worked perfectly. Remote locking functions normally now and radio signal strength is back to full. No more signal interference issues either. The new mechanic also properly sealed everything to prevent future water damage. Will definitely stick with this shop for future repairs. They took the time to explain the antenna repair process and didnt try pushing unnecessary work. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who couldnt even diagnose the problem correctly.

Had a similar situation with my 2010 VW Polo 1.6 TDI. The remote locking failure combined with key start issues typically points to either the automotive antenna module or its wiring connection. Last garage visit revealed the antenna signal interference was caused by damaged wiring near the front bumper mount. The vehicle antenna cables had deteriorated due to water exposure, creating intermittent connectivity problems. The repair required accessing the antenna module behind the front bumper and replacing the corroded wiring harness. This is a known weak point requiring proper antenna repair, not just a simple key fob battery replacement. The error code typically indicates communication loss between the antenna and the central locking unit. The fix was straightforward but accessing the components took considerable time. This wasnt a major mechanical issue, but leaving it unfixed can lead to complete key system failure. For proper diagnosis, the antenna signal strength needs testing with specialized equipment. Based on your description, the symptoms match the antenna connectivity problem rather than a key fob malfunction or central locking unit failure.
