VW Eos Water Sensor Issue Causing Engine Problems

Latest service was 2 weeks ago, including oil change and general inspection. At 104577km now and running well until this issue started. The error is constant regardless of weather conditions, and the code reader shows P0193. Started happening suddenly, no warning signs before. The malfunction indicator light has been steady since it first appeared.

Thanks for providing those details. My Golf had the exact same error code P0193, which typically points to a fuel rail pressure sensor issue rather than the moisture sensor I initially suspected. Given your mileage and recent service timing, this matches the pattern I experienced. When my car showed this fault, the rough running was caused by incorrect fuel pressure readings sent to the ECU. After the initial misdiagnosis with the moisture sensor, we found the real culprit was a failing fuel pressure sensor. The car sensor was reporting inaccurate values, causing the engine management system to supply incorrect fuel amounts. The repair in my case involved: Full car diagnostics scan to confirm the sensor readings, Replacement of the fuel rail pressure sensor, Basic ECU reset to clear the electrical fault Total repair cost was around 280€ including parts and labor. The fix completely resolved both the rough running and the check engine light. Since you mention the symptoms are constant, this strongly suggests a sensor issue rather than an intermittent wiring problem. Would recommend getting the fuel pressure sensor checked specifically, as the timing and symptoms are nearly identical to what I experienced. The recent service work could have inadvertently disturbed something in that area.

Following up on those details. The steady malfunction indicator and error code P0193 help narrow things down a lot. My mileage is similar at 106000km, and based on diagnostic results, I had the fuel rail pressure sensor replaced last week. The repair cost was 260€ with parts and labor, pretty straightforward fix once properly diagnosed. The rough running is now completely gone and check engine light cleared immediately after the car sensor replacement. Car diagnostics confirmed normal fuel pressure readings. Looking back, I was initially worried it might be something major, but the sensor testing pointed clearly to the fuel pressure component. Appreciate all the insights shared here. Will monitor and update if anything changes, but so far the car is running perfectly after the sensor replacement. For others searching with similar symptoms, definitely worth checking the fuel rail pressure sensor first before exploring more complex issues.

As someone with some hands-on experience, I dealt with a similar water sensor issue on my VW Golf 2008, which shares many components with the Eos. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, rough running and check engine light. The moisture sensor was giving faulty readings due to a damaged connector. What initially looked like a major engine problem turned out to be just a loose connection near the sensor plug. After multiple attempts at diagnosis, my mechanic found that the electrical fault was caused by corrosion in the wiring harness connector. The entire repair, including diagnostic work and replacing the faulty connector assembly, cost 95€. The car has been running perfectly since then. For a more accurate diagnosis, could you share: Current mileage, Any recent repairs or maintenance, Specific error codes stored, Whether the issue occurs more during wet weather, If the problem is constant or intermittent The sensor fault might be related to the wiring rather than the sensor itself. In my case, the car sensor was functioning correctly, but the signal was getting corrupted due to the connection issue.
