VW Eos Diesel Cranks But Won't Start After Recent Service

My 2015 VW Eos diesel wont start, the engine just cranks but nothing happens. The engine light came on briefly last week but disappeared. Recently had work done at a mechanic and now worried about potential ECU failure or fuel injection issues. Car has done 51442km and was running fine until now. Has anyone experienced similar problems with their Eos? Looking for advice before heading back to a workshop.

Had similar issues with my 2012 VW Scirocco diesel. The cranking without starting combined with intermittent engine light often points to electrical issues rather than ECU or fuel injection problems. After checking my car at the workshop, loose battery cable connections were identified as the root cause. Poor connections can create voltage drops that affect the fuel injection system and trigger brief engine light warnings. The main battery terminals had corrosion buildup and weren't properly tightened after previous maintenance work. The symptoms match exactly, engine cranking, temporary engine light, and sudden failure after recent mechanic work. This is typically not a serious issue if caught early, but can mimic more severe problems like engine stalling or fuel system failures. Key checks needed: Battery terminal connection tightness, Cable condition and corrosion, Voltage reading at startup, Ground strap integrity Worth checking these basic electrical connections before assuming more complex issues. The symptoms appeared right after workshop visit, suggesting possible oversight during reassembly.

Thanks for sharing your experience, the symptoms do sound very similar to what I had. Have you gotten it fixed since then and do you remember roughly how much the repair cost? In my case, after initially suspecting serious engine fault codes, it turned out to be exactly what you described, corroded battery terminals causing poor connections. The engine diagnostics revealed voltage fluctuations were confusing the fuel injection system. Shop cleaned and properly secured all terminals, replaced one corroded cable, and did a full system check. Engine surge issues completely disappeared after that. Just wondering if you had any other electrical gremlins pop up afterwards? My car has been running perfectly since the fix several months ago.

Had it repaired about 2 months ago and everything has been working flawlessly since then. The total repair came to 155€, which covered cleaning the connections, replacing some corroded wiring, and running a complete engine diagnostic scan to ensure no lingering issues. The engine control malfunction warning never appeared again after the fix. The mechanic confirmed the voltage drop was causing the engine software to receive inconsistent signals, which explained the temporary check engine light and starting problems. No electrical problems since the repair, the car starts perfectly every time and all systems are operating normally. Goes to show how a relatively simple electrical issue can mimic more serious engine problems. Regular battery terminal maintenance is now part of my service routine to prevent future issues.

After reading through several online suggestions and worrying about potential engine fault codes, I took my Eos to a trusted workshop last week. They quickly identified the issue as corroded battery terminals causing poor connections, just as several forum members suggested. The mechanic showed me how voltage drops were triggering false engine diagnostics readings. The fix was straightforward, they cleaned all terminals, replaced one badly corroded cable, and ran a full ECU check to ensure no underlying issues. Total cost came to 190€ including labor. Since the repair, my car starts perfectly and there have been no more check engine warnings. Really glad it turned out to be a simple electrical problem rather than a major ECU issue or fuel system failure. Will definitely keep an eye on battery connections during future services to prevent this from happening again. The car runs better than ever now.
