Thanks for sharing that, glad to hear you got it sorted. My symptoms match exactly what you described with the HVAC unit and dashboard errors. Really helpful to know about the wiring harness issue, as I was worried it might be a more expensive heater core replacement. Would you mind sharing what the repair ended up costing? Also curious if you experienced any other climate control problems since getting it fixed?

Got my VW Transporter back from the mechanic yesterday and wanted to give you an update. The Defrost air distribution flap issue has been completely resolved. The air circulation is now working perfectly after they found and fixed a loose cable connection to the control unit. Total repair cost was 95€ which included testing the entire ventilation system afterward. Much better than initially feared, especially since I was also worried about potential heater core problems. The blower motor is now responding correctly to all settings and the dashboard panel is error-free. No other climate control problems since the repair. The whole system is working like new, proper heat output, correct air distribution, and no more error messages. If your symptoms are similar, definitely worth having a professional check the cable connections first before assuming worse issues. These control unit connection problems are relatively straightforward fixes when properly diagnosed.

Just got back from the mechanic with my Crafter and wanted to close this thread with my experience. The issue turned out to be exactly as suggested, faulty wiring connections near the blower motor. The temperature regulation is now working perfectly. The repair was straightforward. They found corroded terminals affecting the air distribution system and replaced the connector. Total cost came to 120€ including diagnostic time. Much cheaper than I expected, especially since I feared a complete heater core replacement. The dashboard panel is now clear of error codes and the ventilation system provides proper heat. Really glad I checked here first, saved me from visiting multiple mechanics or paying for unnecessary repairs. No other climate control issues since the fix. Whole job took about 2 hours and the heating works like new. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with this one.

Had the same issue on a 2014 VW Transporter 2.0 TDI. The HVAC unit started malfunctioning with similar symptoms, poor heat output and error codes on the dashboard display. The root cause was a faulty electrical connection to the climate control module. The wiring harness near the blower motor had corroded terminals, causing intermittent contact. This affected both the temperature regulation and proper air distribution through the ventilation system. The fix required: Removing the lower dashboard panels, Accessing the main HVAC control module, Replacing the damaged wiring connector, Testing all windshield fogging and distribution modes This was a serious electrical issue that could have led to complete climate control failure if left unaddressed. The problem is relatively common in VW commercial vehicles from that generation due to their connector design. Recommend having a qualified technician diagnose it properly, as attempting DIY repairs on the climate control system can damage other connected components. The error code should help narrow down the exact failure point.
