Thanks for sharing your experience. The symptoms with my steering column sound exactly like what you encountered. Did the repair completely resolve your traction control and alignment problems? Could you remember roughly what the total cost was for fixing the steering sensor and doing the alignment? My local shop quoted me but Id like to compare prices. Also wondering if youve had any recurring issues since the repair was done. Looking to get this sorted soon since the heavy steering is getting worse and that wheel shake is concerning. Just want to make sure Im not overlooking anything else that could be related.

Happy to provide an update, the steering angle sensor repair completely resolved all the issues I experienced. After the mechanic recoded the faulty sensor and performed the necessary calibration, both the traction control and electronic stability systems returned to normal operation. The repair cost came to 195€ for the sensor coding work. The steering column now operates perfectly, no more heaviness or concerning vibrations. The automotive sensors are all communicating properly with each other again, which was crucial for restoring proper functionality to all steering and stability systems. Since having the work done 6 months ago, I havent experienced any recurring problems. The steering feel is back to normal and the stability control works exactly as intended. Getting this fixed was definitely worth it for the improved safety and handling. The wheel shake you mentioned is exactly what I dealt with, dont wait too long to address it. A malfunctioning steering sensor can cause various issues with vehicle control systems. Having properly functioning automotive sensors is crucial for safe operation.

After seeing those helpful replies, I finally took my Caddy to a different mechanic last week. The diagnostic confirmed exactly what was discussed, a faulty steering angle sensor causing the stability control issues. The repair process was straightforward and included a complete sensor replacement along with recalibration. Total cost came to 280€ including parts and labor, plus an extra 60€ for the wheel alignment they recommended. The stability control warning disappeared immediately after the automotive sensors were replaced and properly coded. The steering now feels perfect, no more heavy handling or concerning vibrations. The wheel shake is completely gone too. Such a relief to have this sorted, as the alignment problems were getting worse by the day. Really glad I got a second opinion and had this fixed properly. The new mechanic showed me the old sensor and explained how these alignment problems can cascade into bigger issues if left unchecked. Money well spent for peace of mind and safer driving.

Recently dealt with similar symptoms in my 2014 VW Golf TSI. The electronic stability warning light came on intermittently while the steering became notably heavier. The steering sensor calibration was indeed faulty, which affected multiple systems including power steering assistance. A proper diagnosis revealed the steering angle sensor needed recalibration and partial replacement. The sensor communicates with the electronic stability control system, and when it fails, it affects both steering feel and vehicle stability. The repair involved replacing the faulty sensor components and performing a complete wheel alignment to ensure proper calibration. The symptoms you describe, heavy steering and wheel shake, match what I experienced. This is a serious issue that affects vehicle safety and handling. The steering sensor malfunction can cause the electronic stability system to receive incorrect input, leading to reduced power steering assistance and potential stability control issues. The repair should include: Full diagnostic scan, Steering angle sensor replacement, Sensor coding and calibration, Wheel alignment verification, Electronic stability system testing Best to address this promptly as it affects critical safety systems. The repair requires specialized diagnostic equipment and expertise with VW electronic systems.
