VW Caddy Indicator Blinking Fast, Electrical Fix Needed

Last service was at 65000km, so I can confirm this just started happening after that point. No correlation with weather, but both turn signals are affected. When using either direction, the indicator light blinks unusually fast and triggers the error message. The broken lens inspection revealed no visible damage, though the signal lamp housing looks slightly oxidized on both sides. The speedometer also occasionally shows unusual readings for a few seconds before returning to normal. No other electrical issues noted so far, but definitely concerned about potential underlying problems. Just hoping for a cost effective fix since the warning lights are quite distracting during daily driving.

Thanks for those additional details about your Caddy, this matches exactly what happened with my Golf after servicing. The timing of the issue starting after service is particularly interesting. The simultaneous issues with both turn indicators, combined with the speedometer behavior, strongly suggests this is an electrical connection problem rather than just a defective signal lamp. In my Golf, oxidized connections were causing resistance changes in the circuit, leading to those exact symptoms, fast blinking indicators and erratic speedometer readings. I had initially just replaced the bulbs (15€ for the pair) thinking it was a simple lamp replacement job. But that didnt fix it. The actual solution required: Cleaning oxidation from the lamp housing connections, Replacing the flasher relay unit, Repairing some damaged wiring near the fuse box Total repair cost was 95€, but it completely resolved both the turn indicator light issues and the sporadic speedometer readings. Given the similarity of our issues and vehicle electrical systems, you might be looking at comparable repair costs. Would recommend having the connections checked first before replacing any parts, since connection issues are often the root cause of these indicator light problems in VW models from this era.

Thanks for the detailed info about your Golf experience. The matching symptoms definitely help narrow things down. Your suggestion about oxidized connections and the flasher relay makes sense, especially since my issues started right after that service visit. Think I will take it to the workshop this week and have them focus on checking those electrical connections first before replacing parts. The 95€ total repair cost you mentioned seems reasonable if it fixes both the turn indicator problem and those annoying speedometer glitches. Will probably ask them to clean any oxidation from the lamp housing connections while they're at it, since you mentioned that was part of your complete fix. Hoping it turns out to be something similarly straightforward and not a more extensive electrical issue. Really appreciate you sharing the specific repairs and costs from your experience. Helps me go into the workshop better informed about what to expect. Will update once I get it checked out in case others run into similar automotive lighting problems with their VWs.

Having dealt with similar electrical fault issues on my 2004 VW Golf, I can share some relevant experience. Based on your description, your problem sounds nearly identical to what I encountered. The rapid blinking and speedometer error messages typically point to a flasher relay problem or a failing connection in the turn signal system. In my case, after some diagnostic work, the workshop found that the cable connections to the flasher relay had deteriorated, causing intermittent contact issues. The automotive lighting system would trigger error codes because of these loose connections. The complete fix involved replacing some corroded wiring and installing a new flasher relay unit, totaling 95€ for parts and labor. To provide more specific guidance, could you share: Has the issue appeared suddenly or gradually? Does it happen with both left and right turn signals? Are there any other electrical issues present? Have you noticed any correlation with weather conditions? This information would help determine if your problem matches what I experienced with my Golf and whether the solution might be similar. With turn signal problems, its important to address them promptly as they can sometimes indicate broader electrical system issues.
