VW Bora Oil Pressure Warning Signals Engine Risk

I had my last service just 3 months ago at 32072km, and my oil pressure warning started appearing this week. The odd part is having both warnings show up together. After checking the oil manually, I noticed its unusually dark color, even though the oil change is relatively recent. The oil pressure sensor acting up alongside the speedometer makes me wonder if this could be more of an electrical issue than actual oil contamination. Based on my service records, everything should be in order with the engine oil itself. Would it make sense to check the wiring harness first, or should I proceed straight to another oil change to rule out contamination?

Thanks for those details, and yes, this situation sounds eerily similar to what happened with my Golf. The dual warning lights initially made me think electrical too, but the dark oil color despite recent service is concerning. Even with proper maintenance intervals, oil contamination can occur rapidly if theres an underlying issue. In my Golf, we discovered coolant was mixing with the oil through a failing head gasket, causing the oil to darken quickly and triggering the sensors. Before rushing to an oil change, I suggest: Checking the oil level when completely cold, Looking for oil leaks around the engine, Inspecting for oil sludge under the oil cap, Testing the battery voltage The electrical theory is worth investigating, but oil sludge and contamination can cause erratic sensor readings. My repair started with checking wiring but ultimately revealed more serious oil-related problems. Would strongly recommend getting professional diagnosis soon, as the combination of dark oil and warning lights, even after recent service, could indicate developing engine damage that needs immediate attention. Let us know what you find when checking these points. If the oil is truly contaminated this soon after service, theres likely an underlying issue that needs addressing beyond just changing the oil again.

Thanks for the detailed insights. After checking the points mentioned, I found some concerning signs. The oil under the cap looks slightly milky, and the oil level is actually slightly above the max mark, even though I havent added any oil since the service. Based on what youve shared about your Golf experience, Im getting worried about potential coolant mixing. The engine has been running slightly warmer than usual, which I didnt think to mention earlier. Given these new findings, Im going to skip the electrical diagnostics for now and take it to the workshop tomorrow. If its anything like your situation with the head gasket, I want to catch it early. The oil contamination symptoms match too closely to ignore, especially with that milky residue under the cap. Really appreciate the guidance. Will report back after the workshop inspection to share what they find. Hopefully caught this early enough to prevent serious engine damage from contaminated engine oil.

As someone with some experience working on VWs, I dealt with a very similar issue on my 2005 VW Golf, which shares many components with your Bora. The oil pressure warning combined with speedometer issues raised red flags about potential engine damage. In my case, oil contamination was indeed the cause, discovered during an overdue oil change. The workshop found metal particles in the oil, indicating the maintenance interval had been exceeded. The fix involved: Complete oil change with proper grade oil, New oil filter replacement, System inspection for metal debris, Sensor check and cleaning Total cost was 165€ and resolved both warning lights. Regular maintenance could have prevented this, learned that lesson the hard way. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Current mileage, Last oil change date, Type of oil currently used, Any unusual engine sounds, Recent maintenance history These details would help determine if your issue matches my experience or requires different attention. Oil-related problems can escalate quickly, so getting it checked soon is important to prevent serious engine damage.
