VW Bora OBD Reset: Best Timing for Emissions Test

Had the same problem on my VW Bora. The check engine light came back after clearing the codes and the speedometer was acting weird. The exhaust system needed some testing time to recalibrate after the computer reset. Did it end up working out for you after giving it time? How much did the mechanic charge for the emissions test? Just wondering because my OBD readiness monitors took about 2 weeks to complete, and I had to do some extra driving to get all systems ready. Have you noticed any other issues since then?

Good news, the drive cycle and system readiness check completed successfully after seeing the mechanic. The vehicle inspection showed all monitors were set, which fixed the initial incomplete status. They ran a full OBD2 diagnostics scan at no cost (0€) since I was a returning customer. Like your Bora, my Golf GTI needed about 2 weeks of regular driving to get all systems ready after the computer reset. The speedometer errors disappeared once the onboard diagnostics finished running all tests. The check engine light also turned off on its own after completing the required drive cycles. No other issues have come up since then. The key was really just giving the system enough time to run through all its self-tests. Having a mechanic verify the completion through proper diagnostic equipment gave peace of mind that everything was working as intended. Sounds like you had a similar experience with the readiness monitors needing time to complete. These systems are designed to thoroughly check everything after a reset, which explains the waiting period we both went through.

Thanks for sharing your experience. In my case, I finally got everything sorted after visiting my regular mechanic. Took about 2 weeks of normal driving, and I paid 45€ for a basic car diagnostics check. The mechanic confirmed all the readiness monitors were complete, which was a relief. The check engine light eventually turned off by itself after completing enough drive cycles. Had to drive both in town and on open roads to get all systems ready. The speedometer issues cleared up once all the onboard diagnostics tests finished running. Really glad I waited before getting the emissions test done. My vehicle inspection passed with no problems once all the monitors were set. The extra driving and patience definitely paid off, saved me from failing the test and having to pay for multiple attempts. No issues since then, and the car runs perfectly fine now. Good to know others have dealt with similar situations after resetting their systems.

A reset of the onboard diagnostics system typically needs about 80-100km of mixed driving to complete all monitors. Recently had this exact situation with my 2005 VW Golf GTI when the check engine light appeared after a computer reset. The readiness monitors need specific driving conditions to complete their tests: Several cold starts, City driving with stops, Highway driving at steady speed, Varied acceleration and deceleration The vehicle inspection failed initially because not all OBD readiness monitors were set. This is a common occurrence after clearing codes, not necessarily indicating serious issues. The system just needs time to run its self-tests. Best practice is to: 1. Drive normally for about a week 2. Include both city and highway trips 3. Let the engine fully cool between drives 4. Check monitor status with a scanner before testing The speedometer errors you mention could be related to the speed sensor, which is one of the parameters the system needs to validate. No major repairs were needed in my case, just patience to let all monitors complete their cycles before the emission test.
