After getting it checked at the workshop during my last service at 74857km, it turned out to be both a faulty spark plug and a failing fuel injector in cylinder 2. The check engine light came on because of the combustion misfire, which makes total sense given the symptoms. The repair included: New spark plugs set: 85€, Single fuel injector: 180€, Labor: 150€ Total came to 415€. The engine misfiring is completely gone now and it runs perfectly smooth. No more jerking during acceleration or rough idle issues. If you have similar symptoms, I would definitely get it checked soon to prevent any damage to other engine components.

Thanks for the update on your Bora repair. Had the exact same issue on my Golf, actually ended up replacing all spark plugs as preventive maintenance while they were working on the fuel injector. Smart move to address both components at once since they work together in the combustion process. The cylinder misfire symptoms are pretty distinctive, and your repair costs are in line with what I paid. The check engine light coming on was definitely a blessing in disguise, caught the issue before it could cause damage to the catalytic converter or ignition coils. Quick tip: since you mentioned the mileage, it might be worth keeping an eye on the other fuel injectors. They tend to wear at similar rates, so having the remaining ones cleaned during your next service could prevent similar issues in other cylinders. Glad to hear the engine is running smoothly now. The jerking during acceleration can be really unsettling, but its amazing how the car feels like new once these combustion components are properly sorted.

Thanks for sharing those details about the check engine light and injector repair. Our engine problems were really similar, its great to have confirmation about typical repair costs and symptoms. My 2002 Bora has the 1.8L engine by the way. The throttle response and overall performance is so much better after fixing both the spark plug and fuel injector. The combustion misfire symptoms were scary at first but the repair was straightforward once diagnosed. The workshop mentioned they see this combination of issues quite often in these engines around the 70-80k mark. For reference, these were the main symptoms that led to my repair: Engine misfiring during acceleration, Rough idle at stoplights, Check engine light, Drop in power, especially when cold Hopefully this helps others identify similar issues early. The 415€ total cost was worth every cent to get rid of that terrible jerking sensation and restore proper engine performance. Much cheaper than risking damage to other components by continuing to drive with cylinder misfire problems.

Sounds very familiar. I had similar issues with my 2004 VW Golf with the 1.6L gasoline engine last year. I have some experience working on cars, mainly basic maintenance, but this required professional help. The symptoms were exactly like yours, check engine light, cylinder misfire, rough idle, and jerking during acceleration. After diagnostic tests, the workshop found a defective fuel injector that was causing combustion misfire in one cylinder. The faulty injector wasnt delivering fuel properly, leading to incomplete combustion. The total repair cost was 515€, which included: Diagnostic testing, Replacement injector, Labor costs, New seals The repair resolved all symptoms and the engine has been running smoothly since. Important to note that driving too long with a misfire can damage your catalytic converter, so its best to address this quickly. What model engine does your Bora have? Also, have you noticed any specific conditions when the misfire gets worse (cold start, highway speeds, etc)? This information would help determine if youre dealing with the same issue. Before heading to the workshop, check if there are any stored error codes, they can point directly to which cylinder is misfiring.
