VW Atlas Multiple Engine Problems Need Urgent Fix

My 2022 VW Atlas is showing multiple engine performance issues, rough starts, stalling, and poor fuel economy. The engine doesnt run smoothly at idle and feels significantly underpowered. I suspect a faulty fuel injector might be causing these problems. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms with their Atlas? What was the actual repair needed and how did your workshop diagnose it? Looking for real repair experiences to help pinpoint the issue before taking it to the shop.

Having worked on cars as a hobby mechanic for several years, I faced nearly identical issues with my 2020 VW Tiguan. The symptoms match exactly what you describe, engine performance problems, rough idle, and misfire-like behavior. After diagnostic testing, my workshop found severe clogging in the fuel injection system. The injectors were partially blocked due to carbon buildup, causing irregular fuel delivery and engine performance issues. The repair involved a complete injector cleaning service and replacement of one particularly dirty valve, totaling 515€. The improvement was dramatic, smooth idle returned, proper acceleration, and fuel economy went back to normal. These injection problems often develop gradually, making them tricky to identify early. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Current mileage, Type of fuel you typically use, How long these symptoms have been occurring, Any check engine lights or error codes, Recent maintenance history This information would help determine if your Atlas is facing similar injection system issues and suggest the best repair approach.

Thanks for the detailed response. My Atlas has 91331km and was just serviced last month. These symptoms started appearing about 2 weeks ago, and yes, the check engine light is now on. I get error code P0302 which points to cylinder 2 misfire. Using only premium grade fuel since new, and I notice the performance issues are worse when the engine is cold. The recent service included oil change and basic inspection, but no fuel system work was done. Based on your Tiguan experience, I think I should request a thorough fuel system inspection. Did your repair also include checking the spark plugs, or was it purely injection system related?

The spark plug condition was actually key in my Tiguan repair. While the clogging in the injection system was the primary issue, we discovered the spark plugs were also contributing to the misfire and poor performance. The P0302 error code you mention matches my experience, I had the same cylinder-specific misfire code. My workshop performed a complete fuel system diagnosis and found that carbon deposits were affecting both the injectors and spark plugs, creating a compound performance problem. The repair ended up including: Full injector cleaning service, Replacement of all spark plugs, Emissions system check, Computer system reset Total cost was around 690€, but it completely resolved the cold start issues and restored proper engine performance. Since your Atlas has similar mileage to what my Tiguan had when these problems occurred (around 90000km), the timing fits the typical maintenance pattern. Given your symptoms occur mainly during cold starts, checking both fuel delivery and ignition systems would be smart. The premium fuel usage is good, but carbon buildup can still occur, especially in direct injection engines like ours. Would recommend getting both systems checked since the symptoms and error codes align so closely with what I experienced.

Thanks for such helpful details about the Tiguan repair. The cold start symptoms and error code match my situation perfectly. Given how similar our cases are, I will definitely have both the fuel system and spark plugs inspected. I just scheduled an appointment for next week and specifically requested they check for injector clogging and carbon buildup, along with a full spark plug inspection. The 690€ repair cost seems reasonable if it completely resolves these engine performance issues. Will update once I get the diagnosis and repair completed. Hoping its just carbon deposits causing the gasoline delivery problems like in your case. The fact that your fix fully restored proper engine function is encouraging.
