VW Arteon Engine Mount Failure Causing Rough Idle

Need advice on engine vibrations and mount issues, VW Arteon 2020 My Arteon 2.0 gas with 19k km started having rough idle lately. The check engine light came on and diagnostic showed some error codes. I suspect a failed mount since the vibrations are pretty noticeable, especially at idle. Had a bad experience with my usual mechanic before, so looking for recommendations. Anyone dealt with similar motor mount problems on their Arteon? What was the repair cost in your case?

Had similar vibration issues with my VW Passat 2017 2.0TSI. The symptoms matched exactly, rough idle and excessive engine movement. Diagnostic scan revealed multiple mount failure points affecting both the engine and transmission mounts. The root cause was deteriorated rubber insulators in the main engine mount. This allowed excessive engine movement which then stressed other mounting points. What started as minor vibrations progressed into more serious mount wear across the whole mounting system. The repair required replacing both the engine and transmission mount assemblies as the worn components had created a cascade effect. This is a known weak point on these VW powertrains. The job took about 6 hours at the shop. Mount issues should be addressed promptly as they can lead to additional problems: Increased strain on engine components, Misalignment of drive components, Potential damage to transmission, Accelerated wear on other mounts, Risk of sudden mount failure Would strongly recommend having all mounting points inspected, not just the one showing obvious symptoms. The repair is significant but essential for preventing more extensive damage.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the mount failure repair. The symptoms you described with your Passat match what I am seeing on my Arteon perfectly, those harsh vibrations and engine movement are really concerning. My vibration issues have been getting worse over the past few weeks, especially at idle. Did you notice any other problems develop after fixing the defective engine and transmission mounts? Also wondering what the total repair cost was in your case, as I want to budget properly for this repair. I will definitely have all the mounting points checked as you suggested, since it seems the worn components can create that cascade effect you mentioned. Better to address everything at once than risk additional damage.

After fixing my Passat mount failure issues, the car has been running smoothly with no recurring vibration issues. The transmission mount and engine mount replacement completely resolved the harsh idle vibrations I was experiencing. The interesting part was that my final repair turned out simpler than expected. While initial diagnosis suggested multiple mount failures, the mechanic found the main problem was actually a faulty sensor connection affecting the engine mount system. The repair only needed a cable replacement and proper reconnection, costing 95€ for parts and labor. This was much better than the potential full mount replacement I initially feared. Since the fix, I have not experienced any additional problems. The engine runs stable, and those concerning vibrations disappeared completely. However, your situation might be different, while my issue was electrical, you might have actual physical mount wear. Having all mounting points inspected is still the safest approach to prevent that cascade effect where one failed mount overloads the others. Make sure your mechanic thoroughly checks both the physical condition of the mounts and their electrical connections, as sometimes what appears as mount failure can have simpler solutions.

I took the car to a new mechanic yesterday based on the advice here. Turns out my vibration issues were indeed caused by a failed mount, but also discovered a loose wiring harness that was causing the check engine light. The mechanic found significant rubber mount deterioration on the passenger side. The worn mount was allowing excessive engine movement, which then put extra stress on the remaining mounts. They replaced the defective engine mount and secured the wiring properly. Total repair came to 480€ including parts and labor. While not cheap, the car now runs perfectly smooth with no vibration issues at idle or while driving. The check engine light is gone too. Really glad I had this fixed before it caused more problems, the mechanic showed me how the mount wear was starting to affect other components. Will definitely keep monitoring for any signs of mount issues in the future. For anyone else dealing with similar symptoms, would recommend getting it checked right away rather than waiting like I did.
