VW Arteon Alarm Fails Due to Secondary Battery Issues

Hi, looking for advice on a recurring car battery issue. My 2023 VW Arteon (gasoline, 124747km) started having electrical issues. The car alarm stopped working completely and the system keeps storing error codes. I suspect its related to the secondary battery for the alarm system. Has anyone experienced similar problems? What should I expect when taking it to a mechanic for a battery check? Last repair experience wasnt great, so Im hoping to be better prepared this time. Any tips or experiences would be much appreciated.

I experienced similar symptoms with my 2016 VW Phaeton. The auxiliary battery failure caused the alarm system to malfunction and generated multiple error codes. The battery alarm kept triggering even when the main car battery was fully charged. After inspection, the technician confirmed the auxiliary battery had degraded significantly. These smaller batteries typically have a shorter lifespan than the main car battery, especially with frequent use of the alarm system. The replacement process required specialized diagnostic equipment to reset the electrical system and clear stored error codes. This electrical issue affects various vehicle functions beyond just the alarm. The repair involved: Testing both main and auxiliary battery systems, replacing the degraded auxiliary battery, full system reset and code clearing, testing all affected electrical components, recalibrating the alarm system. While not a major mechanical problem, leaving it unaddressed can lead to more serious electrical complications. The auxiliary battery is a critical component for the security system and various standby functions. Consider requesting a full electrical diagnostic test when visiting the shop. The technician should check both batteries and verify proper charging system operation after the repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the auxiliary battery replacement. This sounds exactly like what I went through with my Arteon. Had the electrical issue fixed last month and so far everything works fine, no more error codes or alarm malfunctions. The battery check revealed similar problems with the degraded auxiliary battery affecting multiple systems. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost in your case? Also curious if you have experienced any other electrical issues since the battery replacement was done.

Thanks for the update on your Arteon. Good to hear the system diagnosis resolved your battery problem. In my case, the total repair came to 330€, which covered both the auxiliary battery replacement and resetting the alarm system. Since getting the repair done, all electrical systems have been working perfectly. No more error codes or battery alarm warnings. The security system now functions as intended, and the auxiliary battery maintains proper charge levels. I recommend keeping an eye on your battery management system readings through regular checks. This helps catch any potential issues before they develop into bigger problems. My experience shows that once the auxiliary battery is properly replaced and calibrated, these electrical gremlins typically dont return. The investment was worth it considering how many vehicle systems rely on stable power from both batteries. A failing auxiliary battery can cascade into various electrical problems if left unchecked.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I took my Arteon to a certified shop last week for a complete battery check. The mechanic found the auxiliary battery was indeed failing, causing all those electrical issues. Total cost came to 280€, slightly less than expected. The repair process was straightforward. They ran full diagnostics, replaced the degraded auxiliary battery, and reset all systems. Really different experience from my last repair, the technician explained everything clearly and showed me the battery signal readings before and after. Its been running perfectly since then. No more error codes popping up and the car alarm works normally again. Really relieved to have this electrical issue sorted before it caused bigger problems. Will definitely keep up with regular battery checks from now on to catch any issues early. Thanks again for helping me understand what to expect. Made the whole repair experience much smoother this time around.
