Voyager's Starting/Stalling Issues Point to Bad Switch

My Voyager 2009 has serious starting troubles and keeps cutting out while driving. The engine also runs very rough when it does work. After a bad repair job, I suspect the ignition switch might be faulty. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and found a reliable fix? Car specs: 2009 Chrysler Voyager, gas engine, 99939km on the clock. Looking for suggestions before taking it back to a mechanic.

Recently fixed similar issues on a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country. The symptoms you describe match what happened, rough running engine, unusual stalling, and starting problems. The ignition switch was part of the problem, but the main culprit turned out to be failing ignition coils. When the dashboard lights flickered during starting attempts, it initially pointed to the ignition switch. However, diagnostic testing revealed multiple ignition coils were deteriorating. The rough running and cutting out while driving are classic signs of bad coils not properly delivering spark to the plugs. This was a serious issue requiring immediate attention since failing ignition coils can damage the catalytic converter if left unchecked. The repair involved replacing three ignition coils and installing a new ignition switch assembly since the original was showing signs of wear. The starting issues completely resolved after the repair. For your Voyager, recommend having both the ignition coils and switch tested before replacing parts. These components commonly fail around 100000km on Chrysler vehicles. Tip: When experiencing these symptoms, try avoiding short trips as cold starts put extra stress on failing ignition components.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Mine ended up being very similar with the rough running and unusual stalling on my 2009 Voyager. The starter motor would sometimes click but not engage properly, and the dashboard lights behaved strangely during starting attempts. After reading about your ignition coil diagnosis, I had mine checked too. Turned out two coils were indeed bad and the ignition key mechanism was worn. Would be interested to know the repair costs in your case and if you had any more engine start issues since getting it fixed? This seems to be a common problem on these models around the 100000km mark.

Had the repairs done about 3 months ago and the car starts perfectly now. The ignition coil issue was causing most of the problems, but replacing the faulty ignition switch made a big difference too. Found a blown fuse during the repair which cost 52€ to replace. The key turn is smooth now and the starter motor engages right away without any clicking sounds. No more issues with car electronics or strange dashboard behavior. The engine runs smoothly and starts reliably every time, even in cold weather. Definitely worth getting it all fixed properly. These car electronics tend to wear out around 100000km as you mentioned. Regular maintenance helps catch these issues before they cause more expensive damage. The repair completely resolved all starting problems and the unusual stalling. Sounds like you made the right call getting yours checked out too. These Chrysler models really do need attention to the ignition system components at this mileage.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Wanted to share how my repair went. Took the car to a certified mechanic who specializes in Chrysler vehicles. The total bill came to 780€ including parts and labor. They replaced both faulty ignition coils, the worn ignition switch, and found some corroded wiring that needed fixing. The starter motor was actually fine despite the clicking, just needed proper power from the new ignition components. The car runs beautifully now, no more rough engine start issues or cutting out while driving. The dashboard works normally and the engine purrs like it should. Really glad I got it sorted before any major damage occurred. For anyone else with similar symptoms, definitely worth checking the ignition system first. The mechanic said these components typically need attention around 100000km, which matches what others mentioned here.
