Vitara Cruise Control Failure: Repair Guide & Solutions

My 2016 Vitara diesel has developed an issue where the cruise control is non-functional, accompanied by a warning light in the instrument cluster. The car electronics seem normal otherwise, but the error persists in the system memory even after clearing it. Has anyone encountered a similar malfunction with their cruise control system? Specifically interested in potential causes and repair solutions from those who have had this fixed. Was it related to a faulty actuator or something else? Please share your repair experiences and approximate repair costs.

I had a very similar issue with my 2014 Swift diesel. As someone with some hands-on experience maintaining cars, I can share what worked for me. The cruise control system stopped working completely and kept throwing error codes. After getting diagnostics done, the workshop found that the wiring connection to the cruise control actuator was damaged, causing intermittent signal issues. The throttle body connections were all fine, but the cable harness near the steering wheel had a loose connection. The repair involved: Full system diagnostics scan, Testing the cruise control actuator, Replacing damaged wiring and connector, Recalibrating the system Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. The fix took about 2 hours and has been working perfectly since then. To better assist with your case, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Does the cruise control switch on the steering wheel respond at all? What error code is showing up in the diagnostics? Has there been any recent work done near the steering column? These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or potentially something different.

My last service was at 110000KM and everything worked fine. The cruise control switch has no response when pressed, completely non-functional. The diagnostics showed error code P0519, which points to a problem with the throttle actuator circuit. No other electrical issues noted and no recent work near the steering column. I checked all fuses and they seem intact. I am wondering if this is a common actuator failure that requires replacement, or if there might be a simpler wiring issue like in your case. Has anyone with similar error codes managed to fix this without replacing the entire actuator assembly?

Based on your description and error code P0519, this sounds very similar to what I experienced. While my initial suspicion was just wiring, I eventually discovered the issue was more complex than in my first reply. After further investigation, my problem actually involved both the wiring and a partially failed actuator. The loose connection had caused intermittent voltage spikes that damaged the actuator over time. When checking the fuse box, all fuses looked fine initially, but a detailed voltage test revealed inconsistent power supply to the cruise control module. The complete repair ended up requiring: New actuator assembly, Replacement of damaged wiring, Full system diagnostics and recalibration, Cleaning of throttle body connections Total cost increased to 380€, significantly more than just the wiring fix I mentioned earlier. However, this comprehensive repair ensured no recurring malfunction issues. Since your error code specifically points to the throttle actuator circuit and you have zero response from the steering wheel controls, I suspect youre facing a similar combined issue. Would strongly recommend getting the actuator tested before attempting just a wiring repair. Have you noticed any slight hesitation or irregular idle speed? These can be additional symptoms of a failing actuator that arent immediately obvious.

Thanks for the detailed information about the combined wiring and actuator issue. This seems more serious than I initially thought. After reading about your experience, I checked for the additional symptoms you mentioned and noticed a slight hesitation during cold starts that I had previously ignored. The no-response situation with my cruise control switches and the specific P0519 error code matching your case makes me think I am indeed dealing with a similar faulty system scenario. The pattern of cruise control failure after the car electronics were working fine for 110000KM, combined with the persistent error code, strongly suggests an actuator problem rather than just wiring. Given your repair experience, I will have the complete actuator assembly and wiring checked rather than attempting partial fixes. The 380€ cost seems reasonable for a comprehensive repair that addresses both the faulty actuator and potential wiring damage. Better to fix everything properly now than risk ongoing issues. Would you mind sharing how long your repair has held up? Also wondering if you noticed any improvement in general throttle response after the complete fix was done?
