Thanks for sharing your experience. I had nearly identical issues with my 2016 Vitara last winter. The gear selector display would out of nowhere go dark and the safety switch system kept acting up until the car refused to start. The mechanic found a damaged clutch switch wiring harness that was causing all these problems. Curious what repair costs you ended up paying and if you experienced any other problems since getting it fixed? Seems like these safety mechanism failures are becoming more common on these models.

Pleased to report the repair sorted everything out completely. The mechanic traced it to a bad clutch pedal switch connection, basically just a loose cable causing all those electrical gremlins. Total bill came to 95€ which covered fixing the faulty switch wiring. Since the repair, all systems are working perfectly, gear display stays on, cruise control functions normally, and the safety mechanism operates as intended. Car starts every time without issues. No more problems with the clutch pedal safety switch in the 6 months since the fix. It was definitely worth addressing promptly as car stalling and safety system failures can be dangerous. The intermittent nature of these symptoms often points to wiring issues rather than a completely failed switch. Getting the connection properly secured prevents future safety mechanism malfunctions. The diagnosis confirmed what we suspected, the faulty switch was disrupting multiple vehicle systems due to the interconnected safety features. These issues do seem to surface more frequently as these models age and the wiring experiences wear from regular use.

Thanks everyone, wanted to share how my repair went. Took it to the shop yesterday and they diagnosed exactly what we discussed, a worn clutch switch wiring harness causing the electrical faults. The safety mechanism kept triggering out of nowhere due to the loose connection. The mechanic showed me where the wiring had rubbed through near the clutch pedal. Total repair came to 120€ including parts and labor. They replaced the entire clutch pedal switch assembly since the wiring was part of the unit. All systems are back to normal now, gear selector display works, cruise control functions properly, and most importantly the ignition problem is completely fixed. Car starts perfectly every time. Definitely glad I got it sorted quickly before getting stranded somewhere. The interconnected safety features made this seemingly small issue affect multiple systems. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences which helped confirm my suspicions about the clutch switch being the culprit.

Had the exact same symptoms on a 2018 Swift GT. The clutch pedal safety mechanism was sending incorrect signals, causing multiple electrical faults across different systems. The root cause was a faulty switch connection where the clutch pedal meets the sensor. The wiring harness had worn through from repeated movement, creating intermittent contact. This led to the gear selector display going blank and disabled several safety features including the start inhibitor. The repair involved replacing the entire clutch pedal switch assembly since the individual components are not serviceable. While the part itself is relatively simple, accessing it requires removing multiple interior panels and disconnecting several electrical connectors. It was a serious issue since the car eventually refused to start completely due to the safety interlock system interpreting the faulty switch signals as a potential hazard. Would recommend getting it checked soon as driving with compromised safety systems is risky. The diagnostic scan revealed multiple trouble codes all pointing back to the clutch pedal sensor circuit. A proper repair should include testing all related safety mechanism functions after replacement.
