Thanks for sharing your experience! My Vectra has 28109 KM on the clock, and just had its service last month. I'm not getting any error messages on the dash, it just suddenly stopped working yesterday. Both functions died at the same time, which made me think it might be electrical. I'll get it checked at the workshop based on your feedback, the cable connection issue sounds pretty similar to what I'm experiencing. Did your wipers also stop working completely out of the blue?
Hey again! Yes, my wipers also stopped working completely out of nowhere, it was literally fine one day and dead the next. Just like your case, no warning lights or anything. Since you mentioned both systems failed simultaneously, it really does sound identical to what I experienced with my Astra. Actually, I forgot to mention in my first reply that I initially thought it was just the switch too, but when both the wipers and headlight washers stopped at the same time, my mechanic said it's usually a connection issue rather than the switch itself. In my case, the cable had worn out over time and finally gave up. Given that your Vectra only has 28109 KM, it's a bit unusual, but these things can happen regardless of mileage, sometimes it's just bad luck with the components. Since you've just had a service, maybe mention this to the same workshop? They might even give you a better deal since you're a recent customer. Hope this helps! Let us know what they find, always good to share experiences for future reference. These Vauxhalls can be a bit quirky with their electrical systems sometimes!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's really helpful to hear that your experience was so similar to mine. I've just called my regular workshop and they can take a look at it tomorrow morning. You're right about mentioning the recent service, they actually offered me a diagnostic discount since I was just there last month! I feel much more confident now knowing what to expect. The cable connection issue makes total sense, especially since both systems failed at the same time. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and follow-up advice. I'll definitely update the thread once I get it fixed, so others can benefit from the solution too. Thanks again for your help!
Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2005 Vauxhall Astra (also had experience with an Vauxhall Corsa). I've got some experience working with cars, but I usually leave the complex stuff to professionals. When my wipers and washers stopped working, it turned out to be a faulty steering column switch cable connection. Took it to my regular workshop, they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The repair cost me around 155€ including parts and labor. They had to replace the connection, and everything's been working fine since then. Could you share more details about your Vectra? Like the exact engine size and whether you're getting any error messages? This might help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same issue I had.
