Vectra's Frozen Mirrors: Common Heating Element Issues
Mirror doesn't defrost

Thanks for sharing that! Yep, both mirrors are affected and the adjustment works fine. Just checked after my latest service at 13950 KM, and everything else seems normal, just this heating issue that's bugging me. Good to know it might just be a wiring problem. I'll get it checked out and hopefully it's something simple like what you had.
Hey again! I totally get what you're dealing with. Since you mentioned both mirrors are affected, that's actually different from what I experienced with my Astra. When both mirrors aren't working, it could point to something more central in the system, maybe the switch or the main wiring connection from the heating control unit. On my Astra, like I said before, it was just one mirror with the corroded connection. But I had a chat with my mechanic when I was there, and he mentioned he's seen cases where both mirrors stopped working because of a blown fuse or a faulty switch. Since your adjustments are working fine (like mine were), at least we can rule out major electrical issues with the mirror assembly itself. Given your mileage is pretty low at 13950 KM, I'd definitely get the fuse checked first, it's the cheapest fix if that turns out to be the problem. My mechanic actually showed me where these fuses are located, and it might be worth checking that before spending money on a full diagnostic. Keep us posted on what you find out! Always interesting to hear how these things turn out, especially since we're dealing with similar Vauxhall models.
Thanks so much for all that detailed info! Really helpful to know about the fuse possibility, definitely makes sense since both mirrors are affected. I actually just checked the manual and found the fuse box location, so I might take a look at that myself before heading to the garage. You've saved me some potential diagnostic costs there! I'll definitely update the thread once I figure out what's causing it. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with the Astra. These Vauxhall electrical quirks can be tricky sometimes, but at least we can learn from each other's experiences!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2004 Vauxhall Astra Diesel (and I've also owned a Corsa). I have some experience working on cars, but mostly basic maintenance stuff. I took mine to my regular workshop last winter for the same problem. Turned out it was just a faulty connection in the wiring, the plug that connects to the mirror heating element was corroded and loose. The mechanic had to replace the connector and rewire it. Cost me about 155€ all in, and it's been working perfectly since then. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you tell me if both mirrors are affected or just one? Also, have you noticed any other electrical issues with your mirrors (like adjustment not working)? This info would help narrow down if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
