Vauxhall CrosslandX Transmission Woes, Help Needed!

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

|

Check engine light on

Hi everyone, having some worries with my 2022 Vauxhall CrosslandX (petrol, 239,651 km). The check engine light recently came on, and I'm experiencing inconsistent gear shifts, sometimes it slips or changes gears at odd times. I suspect it might be the transmission selector, but after a previous disappointing experience with my mechanic, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their CrosslandX? Any recommendations for reliable mechanics who really know their way around Vauxhall transmissions? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Grandland X last winter. The symptoms you're describing match what I experienced, irregular gear shifts and that annoying check engine light. Turned out the cable connection on my selector lever was damaged, causing poor communication between the shifter and transmission. This isn't typically a catastrophic problem, but it definitely needs attention soon to prevent any further transmission damage. In my case, the repair involved replacing the selector cable assembly and recalibrating the transmission control module. The job took about half a day at the garage. I'd suggest getting it checked sooner rather than later, driving with faulty gear shifts can lead to more serious transmission issues down the line. It's worth finding a good Vauxhall specialist for this kind of work. A dealer might be your best bet here, as they deal with these specific issues regularly. Would be interested to hear what you find out when you get it looked at.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. My mechanic did mention something about the selector cable when I called them, but I wanted to get some real-world feedback first. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Cheers!

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up since I saw your question. After getting my Grandland X fixed at the dealer, I paid exactly 365.00 € for the whole job, they fixed that dodgy cable connection on the selector lever. Honestly, it was worth every penny because the car's been running like a dream since then. No more weird gear shifts or warning lights to stress about! I know car repairs can be a pain in the wallet, but this one was pretty straightforward. My transmission's been shifting smooth as butter for months now, no other issues have cropped up at all. If you're still on the fence about getting it checked, I'd say go for it. Better to sort it now than wait until it turns into something bigger (and more expensive!). These Vauxhalls are solid cars when they're properly maintained. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks so much for all the advice! I actually just got back from the mechanic yesterday. You were spot on about getting it checked quickly, I found a certified Vauxhall specialist through a 's recommendation. Funny enough, my repair was slightly cheaper at 320.00 €. Like you said, it was the selector cable that needed replacing. The mechanic was really thorough and even showed me the worn-out parts. Got it done in about 4 hours, and honestly, the difference is like night and day! The gear shifts are buttery smooth now, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. The mechanic mentioned that waiting could've led to some serious transmission damage, definitely dodged a bullet there! Thanks again for pushing me in the right direction with your experience. It really helped me make the decision to get it sorted. Cheers for all the help!
