Vauxhall Adam GPS Issue: Common Antenna Problem?

No GPS connection

Hey everyone, my 2012 Vauxhall Adam's GPS stopped working completely. I suspect it might be a faulty GPS antenna, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? If so, what was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and repair costs. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Vauxhall Corsa last year. I have some experience with basic car maintenance, but GPS issues were new to me. The symptoms were exactly the same, GPS completely stopped working out of nowhere. Took it to my regular workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed a faulty GPS antenna. The fix was pretty straightforward, they replaced the antenna unit, and it cost me around 200€ including labor. Could you share what symptoms you're experiencing exactly? Also, have you noticed any interference or spotty reception before it completely stopped working? This might help narrow down if it's the same issue I had.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. In my case, it just died suddenly without any warning signs or spotty reception beforehand. Everything was working fine until one morning when it just wouldn't pick up any signal at all. My car's pretty well maintained (last service was just a month ago), and with 111490 KM on the clock, I haven't had any major electrical issues before this. I might take it to my regular mechanic then, since your solution sounds pretty straightforward. Did your mechanic need to order the antenna part specifically, or did they have it in stock? Just trying to get an idea of how long I might be without the GPS. Cheers!

Hey again! Glad to help out more with the GPS situation. Yeah, that sudden death without warning sounds exactly like what happened to my Corsa. In my case, my mechanic had to order the part specifically for my model, they don't usually keep these antennas in stock since they don't fail that often. It took about 3-4 days for the part to arrive, but the actual repair only took about an hour. Quick tip though, if your Adam has the same setup as my Corsa (pretty likely since they're both Vauxhalls from around the same time), make sure they check the wiring connection to the head unit while they're at it. My mechanic did this as a precaution, and it's good they did because one of the connectors was slightly loose. Didn't cost any extra, just part of the diagnostic process. The fact that you haven't had any electrical issues before and your car's well maintained actually makes me more confident it's just the antenna, that's exactly how mine was. Just a unusual part failure, nothing more complicated. Let me know how it goes when you get it fixed!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful to know about the potential delivery time for the part, I'll make sure to plan accordingly. And thanks for the tip about checking the wiring connections too, I'll definitely mention that to my mechanic when I take it in. Going to call my mechanic first thing tomorrow morning to schedule an appointment. It's a relief to hear it's likely just a straightforward antenna replacement and not something more serious. I'll probably be relying on my phone's GPS for navigation for a few days, but that's not the end of the world. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel much more confident about getting this sorted! Fingers crossed it'll be as simple a fix as yours was. Thanks again!
