Vauxhall Adam Battery Issues: Dimming Lights & Weak Starts

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey everyone. Having some electrical gremlins with my 2013 Vauxhall Adam. Battery seems weak during starts, and all lights are dimming/flickering. I suspect the aux battery might be failing, but want to be sure before replacing parts. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What did your mechanic find and fix? Looking for real experiences to help diagnose this properly. Thanks in advance.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 Vauxhall Corsa last year (I'd say I have some experience working on cars). The symptoms were exactly like yours, weak starts and flickering lights. Took it to my trusted workshop in town, and yep, it was definitely a faulty battery. The mechanic did a full electrical test and confirmed the battery was shot, wouldn't hold a charge anymore. Got it replaced for about 290€ (including labor and diagnostic), and all problems disappeared immediately. Before I can give more specific advice, what's your battery's age, and have you noticed any other electrical issues? Also, has anyone checked the alternator? Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks for sharing that! My battery's about 2 years old, and I'm at 167051 KM since my last service was just 3 weeks ago. Haven't noticed any other electrical problems until now. I've been thinking about getting the alternator checked too, just to be on the safe side. The symptoms really do sound similar to what you experienced with your Corsa. Might book it in with my local garage this week to get it properly tested. Thanks for the tip about getting a full electrical test done, definitely worth checking everything before just replacing parts!

Hey again! Yeah, I remember when I had these issues with my Corsa. You know what's interesting, my battery was also relatively new (around 2.5 years old) when it started acting up. Even though it was supposedly still within its lifespan, sometimes they can go bad earlier than expected. Since your service was just 3 weeks ago, it's a bit odd that they didn't catch any issues then. When I had my problem, I actually went straight back to my garage and they did the full electrical system check for free since I'd just had it serviced. Might be worth mentioning that to your local garage, they might do the same for you. Just a heads up from my experience, while my alternator turned out to be fine, it's definitely smart to get it checked. The full electrical test they did on my Corsa showed that the battery wasn't holding charge properly, even though the alternator was trying its best to keep up. That's why I had those flickering lights, especially at idle. Keep us posted on what your garage finds! I'm curious to know if it's the same issue I had with my Corsa.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! That's really helpful to know about your battery failing early, makes me feel better about mine possibly being the culprit despite its age. I'll definitely mention about my recent service when I take it in, good thinking about possibly getting the electrical check done for free. I've just called my local garage and they can fit me in tomorrow morning, so I'll get them to do the full electrical test like you suggested. I'll check back in once I know what they find. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot more confident about getting this sorted!
