Check engine light on

Hey all, having serious issues with my 2016 Vauxhall Adam. The car stalls out of nowhere, loses power, and sometimes won't start at all. Check engine light is on and there's a warning light in the speedo. I suspect it might be related to engine control, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Adam? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Looking specifically for workshop solutions that worked for you.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Vauxhall Corsa (I'm just a car owner with some basic experience). The symptoms were almost identical, unusual stalling, power loss, and starting problems. It turned out to be a faulty ECU (Engine Control Unit). Took it to my local workshop, and they diagnosed it after running some tests. Had to replace the unit completely, set me back about 625 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Haven't had any issues since then. What engine size is your Adam, and have you had any diagnostic codes read? That'd help me give you more specific advice based on my experience.

Thanks for sharing that! Just had my last service done in March, and sitting at 183,664 KM now. Mine's actually doing very similar stuff, I was worried it might be the ECU too. Was the diagnostic process straightforward at your workshop? I've got the 1.4L gasoline engine and been thinking about taking it in, but wanted to get some real experiences first before spending cash on potentially unnecessary repairs. Really helpful to know about that ECU fix working out for you.

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get wanting to be sure before spending money, ECU repairs aren't cheap! For my Corsa (also 1.4L gasoline), the diagnostic process was pretty straightforward. The workshop hooked it up to their computer, and it pointed straight to the ECU issues. Think it took them about an hour to confirm it. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply, before I got it fixed, I noticed the problems would get worse when the engine was warm, especially in stop-start traffic. Did you notice anything similar? Mine actually started acting up around 175,000 KM, pretty close to where you're at now. The workshop also checked the wiring harness and connections before replacing the ECU, just to be sure it wasn't something simpler (and cheaper!). Given how similar your symptoms are to what I experienced, and considering your mileage, I'd say it's worth getting it checked out. The peace of mind alone was worth it for me, no more worrying about getting stranded somewhere! Mind you, the price I mentioned earlier was just for the part, labor was another 200 Euro or so. But honestly, after the fix, it was like having a different car. No more unusual stalling or power loss issues at all.

Thanks so much for all the details! Yeah, now that you mention it, I've definitely noticed it gets worse in warm weather and stop-start traffic, that's exactly what's happening! Really good to know about the wiring harness check too, I'll make sure to ask about that. The price is a bit steep, but like you said, peace of mind is worth it, especially since I rely on this car daily. Think I'll book it in at my local workshop next week. Would rather sort it now than end up stranded somewhere! Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's made me feel much more confident about what to expect. I'll update the thread once I get it checked out in case anyone else runs into similar issues with their Adam.
