Unpredictable Headlight Behavior in 2010 Lexus LFA, Suspected Indicator Defect

Dim or flickering lights

Low beam and high beam seems too high or too low

Hey guys, I've got a bit of a head-scratcher here. I own a 2010 Lexus LFA, gasoline engine with about 7862 KM on the clock. I've been having some issues with my headlights recently, they're acting a bit sketchy - either they seem way too high or super low. Plus, they flicker or go dim from time to time. I had a bit of a bad run-in with my mechanic on the last gig, so I'm thinking this might be something to do with an Indicator defect, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone out there had a similar issue? How was your experience with your mechanic dealing with it? Would really appreciate your two cents. Thanks peeps!

Hey there, I can relate to your hassle. I'm rolling with a 2010 Lexus LFA, and had some similar issues with my headlights acting up just like two months ago - dimming, flickering, the whole nine yards. At first, I was leaning towards a fuse or bulb issue, but turned out to be a bit trickier. The issue was actually with the headlamp leveling system, quite a doozy. This system adjusts the direction of the lights automatically making sure they're at the right angle. If they start acting weird (like going too high or too low), it’s usually because there's an issue with one of the components - could be the control module or the sensor at the rear of the vehicle. My mechanic actually had to pop into the suspension system, get to the sensor, test it and then replace it. No rocket science but not a simple bulb replacement either. As for it being a serious issue, well, imperfect lighting might not ruin your engine or anything, but trust me when I say it can lead to some nasty situations on the road if you're not careful. Good luck with your LFA!

Hey there, really appreciate your detailed explanation. Sounds like you had quite the adventure with your headlights as well! It's interesting you mention the headlamp leveling system, that could definitely be the culprit in my case too. Can you remember, by any chance, how much you ended up coughing up for the fix? And since this issue was resolved, did anything else pop up related to this problem? Fingers crossed all is cool now, haha!

Hey! Quite an adventure indeed, you could say I'm now not only driving the car but also well-versed in the headlamp leveling system of all things, haha! I remember quite clearly, the cost for fixing that darn A Lamp ended up at 102€. A bit on the steep side, but honestly, it was worth every cent compared to the trouble it was giving me. Plus, it's always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to headlights. To your second question, nope! Since I saw my mechanic last time, there's been no other issues with the headlights or anything related to this problem. I had an Indicator defect, just like what you suspected, but once that was taken care of, everything’s been hunky-dory. Crossing my fingers that you'll have just as smooth of an experience with your LFA!

Brilliant thank you so much! This was a relief to read; you have no idea. It's really useful to get a ballpark figure so I can plan my budget for the mechanic visit, haha! Glad to hear your Lexus is running smooth after the whole episode! I'll definitely keep an eye out for that Indicator defect then. Let's hope my old LFA is as cooperative as your Lexus LFA. Thanks for the wishes. Safe driving and fingers crossed for no more "headlamp" adventures for either of us! Cheers!
