Troubleshooting: Non-functioning convertible roof and warning light in speedometer on 2003 BMW 3 Series Diesel

Convertible top cannot be opened or closed

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hi, I have a problem with my 2003 BMW 3 series diesel (221871 km driven). My convertible roof won't open/close and the warning light in the speedometer is on. I suspect it is related to a defect in the rear window sunblind. Have any of you experienced something similar and can give me a tip on what to look out for the next time I visit the garage? It didn't go so well there last time. Thanks in advance!

Hey buddy, had a similar problem with my 2006 BMW 5 series diesel. My convertible roof suddenly stopped opening and the warning light was also on. The guys at the garage then told me that there was a problem with the hydraulic system. That was pretty serious because I had to leave my car for the time being. If I were you, I would disregard the rear window for the time being. In most cases, technical faults on the convertible top are the cause. It's best to discuss this at your next workshop visit. Good luck, hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your input! Did you remember how much you had to fork out to repair the hydraulic system? And have you had any other problems with the roof since then? It would be great if you remember. Thanks again!

Hi buddy, of course I remember, the repair cost me a small fortune. I had to put 330 euros on the table for the defective motor of the sunblind. But since the mechanics have worked on it, no further problems, not even with the rear window sunblind. So it looks like they've fixed it really well. Hope that helps you a bit. Good luck!

wow, that sounds like a lot of money! But I think it will be worth it if there are no more problems afterwards. Thank you in any case for your help and advice. You've really helped me out. I'll bring it up at my next garage visit and hope they can fix it too. Thanks again and good luck to you too!
