Troubleshooting Seat Heating Issues in 2009 Volvo S80 Diesel

Seat heating without function

Hey folks, got a weird one with my 2009 Volvo S80 Diesel. The seat heating isn't working at all. I'm suspecting there's a fault but can't really nail it down myself. Anyone here experienced something similar? Would really appreciate any pointers on troubleshooting this or hearing about your experiences in getting this kind of issue sorted by a mechanic. Cheers!

Hey there, had a very similar issue with my 2007 Volvo V70 just recently. I've only dabbled a bit in car repair myself, so I'm not an expert by any means, but figured I could share my experience. Took my car to my local workshop, they diagnosed it pretty quickly — turned out the heating mat was defective. Cost me about 390 Euro to have it replaced. Before I can dish out any specific advice though, could you let me know a bit more about your S80 — any strange noises, lights on the dashboard, did the heating stop working suddenly or gradually over time? Might help narrow down if it's the same issue as mine. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the helpful insight! The heating in the seat quietly stopped working, no dramatic failure or anything, just noticed one chilly morning. No warning lights or any unusual noises from the car, it's been running quite smooth. I had a regular service at 174,139 KM and everything was okay then. I guess it could be a similar issue as your V70's, will definitely consider having it checked in a workshop. Appreciate your advice, cheers!

No worries, happy to help! Sounds very similar to what happened with my V70 - heating just stopped out of nowhere one chilly morning, no warning lights or strange sounds. Your car's year and mileage seem to match up too. Since there wasn't any noticeable anomaly with your car other than the seat heaters, it does seem probable that it could be a faulty heating mat as it was in my case. But of course, I'm no expert, so getting it checked at a workshop is definitely the wisest decision. It might cost a bit, but man, having a warm seat on a cold day is priceless. Hope you'll get it sorted out fine. Keep us updated, cheers!

Hey, cheers for the detailed advice! Your experience is a lifesaver. Seems like the heating mat is the likely suspect. Gonna book it into a workshop next week and get it checked out. I completely agree, those cool mornings are rough without the seat heaters. Will definitely keep you in the loop. Appreciate your help! Cheers and stay safe.
