Troubleshooting Keyless Entry System Issues and Lighting Problems in 2012 Hyundai Equus

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

|

Dim or flickering lights

Hey guys, I'm having an odd issue with my 2012 Hyundai Equus with a Gasoline engine. It won't lock or unlock, and the lights are either dim or flickering. I'm suspecting a fault in the keyless entry system, but I'm hoping for some specific advice or shared experiences to help me troubleshoot this thing. Has anyone else faced something like this and got it fixed? I'm curious to know how it turned out in the workshop. Would appreciate any tips!

Hey there! I've also got a Hyundai, a 2010 Sonata. Had a similar issue a while back. I'd consider myself as having some experience with cars, tinkered a bit here and there. Ended up at a workshop, turned out there was a defect with the cable connection to the outside door handle electronics. Cost about 170 Euro to sort it out. It doesn't exactly tell if you have the same issue in your Equus, however. That being said, can you provide more specific details about your Equus? Its mileage, any past electrical problems, patterns in the flickering lights and management of regular maintenance can be pretty useful info to pinpoint the problem.

Hey, thanks for chiming in! Appreciate the help. My Equus has traveled 91353 KM and I've never had any electrical issues until now. Hmm, as for the flickering, it seems to happen randomly really, no specific pattern. Like, it might be fine one moment and then start flickering the next. And yeah, I've been pretty regular with services. Got the last service just over a month ago, didn't highlight any issues then. Do you reckon I should take it to the dealer or just a local garage would do?

Hey again, given your car's mileage and its current setting, it sure sounds like an electrical issue. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where the problem is without a proper diagnosis. Though, it could be anything from a loose connection, a bad relay to a failing alternator or even just a lack of power from a dying battery. Considering you've been up-to-date with your services, it's baffling that it didn't catch any faults before. My experience with my 2010 Sonata taught me that sometimes, dealers have a better understanding of the make and models they deal with. They might catch things a local garage may miss. So, if it's not a big burden on your budget, I'd recommend taking your Equus to the dealer. A proper diagnostic from them could be quite enlightening. Also, if your battery's old or has been behaving a bit funny lately, getting it tested could test a lot of boxes off your list as well. In a nutshell, an in-depth diagnostic is what your vehicle needs right now to catch the culprit. Hope this helps!

Hey again, thanks for the detailed feedback! My battery's fairly new but I will check it just to be sure. I think I'll take your advice and head straight to the dealer instead of a local garage. Maybe a professional eye will help catch the issue better. I'll get a thorough diagnostic and update it here. Could help someone else facing the same problem. Cheers!
