Troubleshooting Issues with 2017 Hyundai ix20: Unexpected Engine Shut Off, ABS/DSC Malfunction, Dim Lights, and Low Battery

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey! I've been dealing with some gnarly issues with my 2017 Hyundai ix20, Gasoline engine. Out of nowhere, my engine has started to shut off by itself, the ABS/DSC isn't working right, my lights are either dim or flickering and I constantly have a weak battery at startup. I'm suspecting a problem with the generator, but I'm not 100% sure. Any of you had the same troubles before? What solutions did your workshop come up with? Really keen to hear about your experiences and some advice on troubleshooting this. Cheers!

Hey, sounds like a bummer. I had quite a similar snag with my 2015 Hyundai i20, Diesel engine. I reckon I'm at a low experience level with cars myself, but managed to pick a thing or two about this issue. Ended up having a defective generator - just like you suspected. My local garage sorted everything out for me. They replaced the faulty generator, which cost me around 960 Euro. Sorted out all those issues you mentioned. I'd advise you to get yours checked out, could very well be the same problem. By the way, can you tell me more about your vehicle’s condition? Model, mileage, that sort of thing. That'll help me give you some more specific advice. Best of luck with it!

Hey there! Thanks for the advice. My ix20's got 32603 KM on the odometer and had its latest service just a few months ago. Everything was fine until these recent issues cropped up. I'm heading to my local garage soon to have it checked out. I really hope it's just a generator problem, as you mentioned. 960 Euro sounds steep but if it rectifies all these issues, it'll be worth it. Thanks again!

Hey! No worries, happy to help. Based on your mileage, it seems a bit early for a generator to give out honestly, but then again every car is a story of its own. Sometimes, it can be down to just bad luck, other times it could be due to faulty battery charging or grounding. The fact that you've been regularly maintaining your car should be in your favor though. And yeah, the cost seems a bit steep, but considering it likely solves all your recent issues, you'll find your peace of mind without the unpredictable shutdowns and that's priceless. Keep us updated what your mechanic finds out. Best of luck!

Thanks for that! I'm hoping for the best, still. And I'll be sure to update you as soon as I hear from the mechanic. Fingers crossed it's not anything too expensive to fix. Peace of mind, like you say is priceless. Really appreciate your help! Cheers!
