Troubleshooting Faulty Heated Windows on a 2002 Mazda Spiano

Heated windows without function

|

Fault stored

Hey! I'm dealing with a cheeky problem on my 2002 Mazda Spiano running a Gasoline engine. Noticed my heated windows aren't working and there's a fault stored. I'm wondering if the windscreen heating functionality is somewhat impaired. Anyone experienced similar issues? Appreciate any tips on troubleshooting this and how you sorted it out in your workshop. Cheers!

Hey there, I had a very similar situation with my 2000 Mazda Cosmo, pretty close to your Spiano, right? I'm not a car guru by any means, but I do know my way around a car to a certain extent. In my case, it turned out that my vehicle battery was weak. I initially thought as you are that my heated windows function was impaired or something. I paid a visit to my local workshop and they diagnosed it for me. Ended up needing a new battery which cost me about 290 Euro to fix the problem. Though that's what worked for me, there could be many reasons for your situation. Can you share more details about what's happening when trying to use the heated windows? Looking forward to help you out! Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for sharing that! Much appreciated. I noticed this issue around, hmm, around 3 to 4 weeks after my latest service, which was at 10973 KM, by the way. I got your point. I've tried checking the obvious – fuse, connections, but nothing seems to be out of place. When I hit the defrost button, I can hear the click sound, but there's no heat coming through. And, the windows don't defrost. I thought initially it might be just taking longer due to the chilly weather but seems that's not the case. Did you face anything similar? Maybe it's time for me to see my mechanic too. What's your take? Cheers!

Hey! Got it, I see your predicament now. Sounds like we've both been down similar roads with our Mazdas. In my case, I didn't quite have the exact issue as you're describing - when I pressed the defrost button, I didn't hear the click sound at all, which was one of the signs that led to the battery diagnosis. However, the fact that your system seems to be functioning (given the click sound), but not producing heat, could be something else. Before I'd rush to the mechanic, if you're handy, I'd suggest you give a go checking the relay or the switch itself. It's possible one of these is the actual culprit, especially if your battery's been replaced fairly recently or holds a good charge. In a worst case scenario, it might be the heating element itself. You've done right to rule out the more obvious suspects like the fuse and connections. Another thing might be worth doing, try operating the defrost feature with the engine idling versus while driving. If the issue persists across both situations, you might have uncovered another piece of the puzzle. In any case, it's always best to consult a professional if things get too gnarly. Hang in there!

Hey! That's a well-rounded piece of advice, thank you so much for taking the time! Alright, I'll give the relay, the switch, and the defrost feature while driving a check. To be honest, I never thought these might be potential culprits. And, you're right, my battery is pretty new, replaced it just last year. I guess I have some homework to do over the weekend before rushing to my mechanic. Can't thank you enough for your insights, you made me see potential issues I hadn't even considered. Cheers to you and your Mazda wisdom!
