Troubleshooting Cooling/Heating System and Defrosting Mirror Issues in 2009 Mazda 6 Diesel

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Mirror doesn't defrost

Hey fellow car enthusiasts! I've got a bit of an odd issue with my 2009 Mazda 6 Diesel. It seems like the cooling/heating systems aren't working as they should, and the mirror doesn't defrost properly. Thinking it could be related to a defogging sensor defect. Has anyone else experienced this? What steps did you take to troubleshoot this issue and what did your workshop do to fix it? Appreciate any advice based on your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hey! Had a similar situation with my 2007 Mazda 3 Diesel not too long ago. It seemed like a similar defogging sensor defect but turned out to be a defective cable connection. So, I definitely have some car DIY experience but I am not a pro by any means! I tackled it by heading to my go-to workshop where they fixed it for 155 Euro. Hate to say it, but might be your case too! But it can depend on a lot of factors like weather, car use, maintenance etc. Could you provide any more specifics on your vehicle's condition or any other symptoms? It'd help nail down the problem even more. Stay cool!

Hey, thanks for your reply and sharing your experience! It’s interesting that it turned out to be a cable issue! Well, talking about the condition of my Mazda 6, it's been out on the road for quite a bit with a mileage of 279931 KM. And yes, its latest service was just done a couple of months ago. Apart from the defrosting issue, everything else seems pretty fine, except maybe it takes longer than usual to warm up, and I've noticed little drops in fuel efficiency. Not crazy, but noticeable. But hey, every pointer helps, right? Cheers!

Hey there again! Ah, high mileage could certainly be playing a part here. Still, it's impressive how these Mazdas hold up, ain't it? Your observation about the longer warm-ups adds a crucial point to this. It's possible that there might be an issue with your thermostat. If it's not opening up properly, the engine might take longer to heat and your heaters won't kick in immediately when you crank them up. Additionally, this could also tie into your slightly dipping fuel efficiency as your car theoretically burns more fuel if it's running cold. I had a similar issue on mine actually, but this was years ago. Funny thing was, I had the same symptoms - difficult defrosting, longer warm-up times plus I was losing coolant. A faulty thermostat was the culprit. Got it changed and everything was back to business. Keep an eye out for a check engine light or any other kind of alert. Of course, don’t just take my word for it. Try to get a professional opinion as well? You don't want to end up stranded on a cold day due to engine damage. Tight lines!

Hi again! Your advice really hit the nail on the head. I hadn't even considered the thermostat as a potential problem source but you've got a good point. It does align with the changes I've noticed in my car lately. Plus, the story of your Mazda sounds pretty similar to mine. I'll definitely keep an eye on the car for any engine alerts. Going to schedule a visit to my trusted workshop right away and will mention the thermostat issue specifically. I agree, need a pro's advice on this. Better safe than sorry, right? Your help and advice has been utterly valuable. Fingers crossed it turns out to be a minor issue. Cheers for sharing your knowledge! Keep revving!
