Troubleshooting Black Smoke, Power Loss, and Unusual Noises in a 2023 Renault Arkana Gasoline Engine

Hey folks, I'm experiencing something odd with my 2023 Renault Arkana with a Gasoline engine. It's blowing black smoke when I accelerate, the check engine light is on, power's dipped quite a bit, jerks when I step on the gas, and there's a loud hiss sound too. To top it off, it's become a gas guzzler, there's a gagging exhaust smell, and an odd whistle as well. I suspect the charge air temperature sensor could be acting up. Has anyone else faced this and got it sorted out in their workshop? Really keen to learn how you guys troubleshooted this issue. Thanks for the help!

Hey there, I've had a similar headache with my 2021 Renault Koleos. I wouldn't call myself a mechanic, but I've got some experience fixing car issues. Turns out, my problem was the engine control unit's evaluation electronics being knackered. I took it to the workshop, explained the problem, and they ran some tests. They confirmed my suspicion about the control unit and replaced it. It did set me back 1000 euro, but my car's been running smoothly ever since, with no problems or weird noises. By the way, could you let me know more about your vehicle? Like mileage, any recent servicing or parts replaced? Any info can help me get a better idea of what you're dealing with. Hope this helps!

Good day, and thanks for the heads up! I hadn't thought about the engine control unit being the issue. My Arkana's clocked up 111804 km, and I had it serviced not too long ago. Did a thorough check but couldn't spot anything weird, and no parts have been replaced recently. Your experience gives me a good starting point. Guess it's off to the workshop for a proper check-up. Worth the hassle if it sorts all these out! Thanks again!

No worries! With that sort of mileage, it could be a few things compounding together. You've serviced your Arkana recently so It's unusual for all these symptoms to show up around the same time. It does sound like it could also be a turbo issue - the black smoke, the hissing, and whistle noise are some tell-tale signs. Mine was purely an ECU issue but it could be different in your case. Since both our Renault ride have the gasoline engine, if it was my Arkana, I'd hook it up to a good OBD2 reader and see if any codes pop up. Bringing it to the Renault workshop for a complete check-up would still be a good idea, though. Better safe than sorry, right? These complex issues sometimes need a professional eye to sort them out properly. Let us know how it goes, fingers crossed it might be an easy fix for you!

Hey there, that's solid advice! I do have an OBD2 reader at home, so I'll give that a shot before heading to the workshop. I realize now that its probably quite important to have these engines checked regularly, to keep these kinds of issues at bay. Agreed, better safe than sorry! I really appreciate your time and advice. Will certainly keep you guys updated. Cheers, fella, your help's been invaluable!
