Hey! I'm dealing with a bit of a headache with my '17 Hyundai ix20. Lately, it's been spewing black smoke when I accelerate, the check engine light won't turn off, and there's a perceptible loss of engine power. It jerks on acceleration, refuses to start at times, and guzzles far more fuel than usual. It also stalls and shakes when idling. I suspect an issue with the ignition coil or misfiring, but would love to hear your troubleshooting tips or experiences. I'm really keen on knowing how you guys resolved similar problems at your workshops. Cheers for any help!

Hi there, I had a similar issue with my '15 Hyundai i20. I would describe my car experience to be of a low level, I'm pretty much a weekend DIY-er. From what I experienced, it seems your analysis might be spot on. I was also dealing with a misfire situation and this 'check engine' light that refused to call it quits. So, I took my car to the local workshop. The mechanic quickly diagnosed it, turned out the cable connection to the ignition coil was defective. I had that fixed along with some minor repairs and it came up to about 365 Euro. It's been running smoothly since then. Just to make sure we're on the right path, could you tell me about the last time you had a full service check? Also, have there been any recent ignition coil replacements or cable work done on your ix20? Any additional information you can provide would be super helpful to further our diagnosis. Cheers!

Hi! Thanks for your quick response! It's really helpful to know that I'm not the only one who experienced this issue. Your experience sounds quite similar to mine indeed. That said, I haven't had any recent work done on the ignition coil or cables. The last time I took it for a full service was at 32603 km, and nothing out of the ordinary popped up then. I'll follow your advice and have the mechanic check the ignition coil connection and see if that's the root of the problem. It's good to have a potential solution in mind before heading to the workshop. If resolved, 365 Euro isn't a bad pay out to get my trusty Hyundai back on its feet. Cross your fingers for me! Let's hope it works out. Cheers for the help, much appreciated!

Not a problem at all, always a pleasure to help a fellow Hyundai owner! The idea is always to get to the root of the problem and not to unnecessarily replace parts which are working fine. Given your last service didn't reveal anything unusual, I think it's a safe bet to check the ignition coil connection first. For the record, in my case, besides the ignition coil connection, the mechanic also replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the fuel injectors as part of his maintenance routine. I'd highly recommend that as well. I hope your visit to the workshop will sort out your problems and it's not too heavy on the pocket. Shoot any more questions you got, happy to help. Good luck and let me know how it went! Take care, drive safe, cheers!

Hey again, Really appreciate your follow up and your extra recommendations. That's a great point to also discuss getting the spark plugs replaced and the fuel injectors cleaned while I'm there. I'll make sure to bring that up at the workshop too. I must say, you've given me a good bit of peace of mind and some solid direction. Can't thank you enough for all the help! It's really something, having out there ready to lend a helping hand. I'll make sure to circle back and let you know how everything turns out. Until then, take care and safe driving to you too. Cheers!
