Troubleshooting Black Smoke and Hissing Noise in 2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid with DPF Regen Issues

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Strong exhaust smell

DPF regeneration failure

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Hey folks, I'm stressing over some issues with my 2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid - it's done about 32k km so far. The beast's blowing black smoke whenever I step on the gas, acting all sluggish, and the check-engine light's been stubbornly sticking around. Plus, there's this annoying loud hissing when I accelerate, smells like a strong exhaust, and my DPF refuses to regen. I was scarred from a crappy mechanic's visit last time so thought I'll check with you guys first. I'm suspecting it might have something to do with a disrupted exhaust gas recirculation function? Anyone had similar issues? How’d your mechanic handle it? Would appreciate any insights. Cheers!

Hey, Sounds bit like a problem I had with my 2017 Renault Kadjar a while back. Black smoke, sluggishness, and all. Ended up being damaged cables on the electric changeover valve. It was a serious enough issue; engine light and all, but fixing it did the trick and didn't have any more issues after that. The valve's job is to control the EGR system, and with damaged cables, it wasn't doing so correctly, which messed up the exhaust recirculation function. That might be what's causing all your trouble (withe the exhaust smell, DPF regen refusal and the smoke). At the garage, they simply replaced the cables and reset the codes. Can't say how it'll pan out for your Arkana Hybrid, but indeed, it seems pretty similar. You'll have this problem passed in no time, fingers crossed! Cheers!

Hey there, Sounds like you've hit a similar snag as the one I tangled with on my Kadjar. That cheeky electric changeover valve was my culprit as well. Spot on with the symptoms - sluggish beast, black smoke gig, and the engine light enjoyed its too-long stay. The mechanic did a once-over, swapped out the cables, waved his magic wrench, and we were back in business. But, do you recollect how much you had to shell out for that? And has anything else acted up since the fix? Hoping my Renault Arkana doesn't drain my pub fund. Cheers for the guidance!

Hey there, Ah, the pesky electric changeover valve memories come flooding back! I remember dealing with it on my Kadjar. When my mechanic got down to it, he tracked down the issue to the exhaust gas recirculation function being disrupted. Post fix, I can happily chirp that it's been smooth sailing. As for the costs, well, it only set me back by 155€. The good news is, it's been worth every penny. The damaged cables on the electric changeover valve were replaced and like magic, no more stubborn engine light, no smoke-show and my ride was back on the road in full swing. So, keep your chin up, this should sort your Arkana out as well. Best of luck and here's hoping your pub fund remains intact! Cheers!

Hey there, Glad to hear you got your Kadjar sorted without too much expense, gives me hope for my Arkana Hybrid! Disrupted exhaust gas recirculation or not, it’s good to know I’m not the only one who's tussled with a stubborn engine light and the annoying black smoke parade. Thanks heaps for pointing me in the right direction. Will definitely bring up the issue of the electric changeover valve and its pesky cables to my mechanic and cross my fingers it won’t cost a fortune. I can't wait to have my beast back on the road again. And hey, my pub fund thanks you in advance! Good to know it won't be completely depleted after this. Cheers!
