Troubleshooting and Repairing a 2010 Fiat Fiorino: Dealing with Start-up Issues Potentially Due to Vehicle Lock Malfunction

Car won't start

|

Vehicle starts briefly and goes out again

Hey fellow car enthusiasts! Recently, I've been dealing with a weird issue with my 2010 Fiat Fiorino (Gas model), just not acting right. It either won't start or starts then dies off right away. My hunch is that it's related to a vehicle lock malfunction. I'm eager to hear if anyone else has dealt with something similar and how you got around to fixing it in your workshop? Particularly interested in what the troubleshooting and repair process was like. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Looks like we're sailing the same boat! My 2008 Fiat Doblo had a similar quirk. I'm no mechanic, but I've kind of forced myself to learn a fair bit over the years. It turned out that the car wouldn't start because the key programming was off. Took it to my local workshop and they managed to get it sorted for about 45 Euro. Could you share a bit more about your Fiorino? Mileage, whether you've got an original or replacement key, recent maintenance, etc.? It'd help in diagnosing your problem better.

Hey! Great to hear I'm not alone. My Fiorino has clocked 140400 km so far and holding up still, almost. I do have an original key, been using it since day one. As for maintenance, I usually try to stick to the service schedule, last one being done pretty recently. That key programming issue has definitely piqued my interest. Not something that crossed my mind, so thanks for bringing that up! I'll definitely investigate that route and see what pops up. Cheers for your help!

Hey there again! With 140K on the clock, and especially with the original key, the programming issue sounds even more probable. Our beauties tend to get temperamental with age, don’t they? Key programming goes a bit funky sometimes and it leads to all sorts of electric gremlins and may cause the issues you're experiencing. Since you've been keeping up with regular maintenance, other common causes for your problem (like a clogged fuel line or a worn-out spark plug) seem less likely. But, of course, I can't rule them out completely without being able to see and hear your car. So, I would suggest getting the key checked out first. If that doesn't solve the problem, then it might be time to look deeper into the engine bay. My local workshop didn't charge me much for the key prognosis and reprogramming. Hope this helps a bit more and good luck!

Hey thanks again for the advice! It's funny how you don't think of these things until someone points it out. I'll definitely get the key checked out first and hopefully, it'll lead to a solution. If not, I suppose it's back to the old drawing board, digging deeper into the engine. Perhaps, I'll learn a thing or two in the process. Cheers for the support, talk to you soon!
