Troubleshooting AC and Heating Issues in a 2015 Kia Bongo due to Potential Solar Sensor Problem

Air conditioning blows warm air

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey! I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2015 Kia Bongo running on Gasoline. The AC just isn't cooling like before, and the heating doesn't seem to be up to par either. I'm suspecting the solar sensor inside might be acting up. Anyone faced similar problems or knows how to troubleshoot this? Any advice on what I can expect from the workshop would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Funny you should mention this - I had a pretty similar issue with my 2013 Kia K2700 a while back. Now, I only have some experience with cars, so take this with a grain of salt. Found out it was a defective wiring harness messing with my sensors. Took it to my local workshop and they sorted it out for around 155€. Price was reasonable given it's a pretty complex issue. Can you share a bit more about your Bongo? Like mileage, any previous issues or repairs? Might help me understand your situation better. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the speedy response! That's interesting, a wiring harness issue, huh? I wouldn't have guessed. My Bongo has clocked 93196 km so far. It doesn't really have a history of issues and the most recent service was a few months back - all standard stuff, oil changes, filter replacements, the works. But this AC and heating thing is new. Any more insights are welcome! Cheers!

Right, those extra details are handy. Your Bongo's relatively clean history and normal mileage discount a lot of wear and tear possibilities. It may not be a solar sensor issue as those are often more problematic in electric cars. Instead, considering your AC and heating conundrum, have a look at your refrigerant levels - an AC system that's low on coolant would have a hard time delivering cold air, and a half-empty coolant reservoir might explain the lackluster heating. The coolant could be leaking somewhere, that'd explain both symptoms. Also, if your vehicle's cabin air filter is dirty or clogged (these should be replaced every 15,000-30,000 miles or so, depending on your driving condition), it could affect the performance of your HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. Worth giving these a check before you head to a workshop! If it's just a refill or filter replacement, you'd save some bucks!

You know what, you're right. I forgot about the refrigerant and the cabin air filter. As a matter of fact, I don't remember when it was last replaced. It might be high time to do that! And I'll definitely check for a coolant leak. Kudos on the detailed response, much appreciated! Cheers! Time to roll up my sleeves and get a bit dirty, I guess!
