Car won't start

2015 Chevy Trax Diesel, Multiple System Failures Having issues with my Trax diesel that point to a possible safety switch problem. Car won't start, gear selector display is dead, and cruise control stopped working. OBD scan shows stored errors. Suspect it might be the clutch pedal switch acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual cause and fix? Looking for repair experiences and approximate costs if you've had this fixed at a shop. The car stalling and electrical fault combo is really stumping me here. Would appreciate any insights on troubleshooting steps or common failure points.

Had a similar issue with my 2013 Chevy Cruze Diesel, sounds exactly like your problem. Not a pro mechanic but I've done basic repairs and maintenance for several years. The symptoms matched perfectly, unusual electrical faults, no start condition, and dead display. Turned out the clutch pedal safety switch wiring harness had some damaged connections causing multiple system failures. The electrical fault was triggering various sensors to act up. Got it fixed at a workshop, total repair was 95 Euro for replacing the faulty switch wiring assembly and connections. Pretty straightforward fix once they found the root cause. Before spending money though, could you share: Any specific error codes from the OBD scan? Does this happen only when cold or all the time? Did it start gradually or suddenly? These details would help confirm if you're dealing with the same ignition problem I had. The safety switch issues can be tricky to diagnose since they affect multiple systems.

Thanks for the feedback! Just had my latest service at 146334 KM and the tech pulled these codes: P0915 and P0914. The car stalling started suddenly last week, one morning it just wouldn't start and showed those electrical gremlins you mentioned. The ignition problem happens consistently now, both cold and warm. When trying to start, there's zero response from the starter, almost like the safety mechanism isn't recognizing the clutch position at all. Good to hear the clutch switch repair wasn't too expensive in your case. I'll get it checked out soon since these symptoms really point to a similar wiring issue. Just wanted to confirm all the signs matched before booking it in.

Thanks for those details, those error codes definitely confirm what I experienced. The P0915/P0914 combo is a classic sign of the gear selector safety switch system acting up, just like on my Cruze. When my car's faulty switch was causing problems, I also had that exact same "dead starter" symptom. The safety mechanism basically thinks the clutch isn't depressed even when it is, so the electrical fault prevents car starting completely. Quick tip from my repair experience, have them check the entire wiring harness, not just the switch itself. In my case, they initially only replaced the switch but the electrical fault came back a week later. Turned out there was corrosion further up the harness that needed fixing too. The zero starter response you're getting is identical to what I dealt with. These safety switches are designed to prevent starting without clutch engagement, so when they fail, the whole starting system gets locked out. Given the matching symptoms and error codes, you're definitely on the right track suspecting the clutch pedal switch assembly. The repair should be similarly straightforward and affordable.

Thanks for breaking that down! Your experience with the wiring harness is especially helpful, definitely going to mention that to the shop when I take it in. Seems like checking the full circuit is important to avoid repeat issues. The gear selector and clutch switch problems matching up with your case gives me more confidence about what I'm dealing with. The car stalling and starter issues must be from the same root cause. Having those specific codes (P0915/P0914) really helps confirm it. I'll book it in next week and make sure they do a thorough check of all the safety switch wiring, not just replace the obvious parts. Better to fix everything properly the first time. The ignition problem needs sorting before it leaves me stranded somewhere!
