Trailblazer Camshaft Sensor Causing Misfires & No-Starts

Loss of engine power

Seeking advice: Camshaft sensor problems in 2022 Trailblazer? My Chevy Trailblazer (2022, gas engine, 143k km) is giving me headaches. The engine barely starts, runs with reduced power, and throws error codes. Pretty sure it's camshaft position sensor failure based on the symptoms, but had a bad experience with my last mechanic and want to get some second opinions. Has anyone dealt with similar engine misfire symptoms in their Trailblazer? What was your repair experience like and how much did you end up paying? Just trying to arm myself with knowledge before heading to a shop. Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences with timing issues and automotive sensor replacements on these engines.

Had a similar issue with my 2019 Chevy Blazer last month. The symptoms matched yours exactly, rough idling, engine misfire, and struggling to start. The crankshaft and camshaft position sensors were both sending faulty signals to the ECU. Initially thought it was just dirty connections, but the diagnostic revealed a failed camshaft position sensor. The wiring harness had deteriorated and was causing intermittent connection issues. The repair involved replacing both the sensor and the associated wiring harness. The fix wasn't overly complex, but ignoring these symptoms can lead to serious engine timing issues and potential internal engine damage. On these engines, the camshaft position sensor is crucial for proper fuel injection timing and ignition sequence. If you're getting error codes related to the camshaft position, definitely get it checked soon. The symptoms you're describing are classic indicators of a failing sensor or wiring issue in the Chevy engine family.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the sensor failure. Your situation sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with, especially that stalling engine and rough idle. My Trailblazer's been displaying those same symptoms for about two weeks now. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the sensor and harness replacement? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Trying to figure out if I should budget for just the sensor replacement or if I should be prepared for additional repairs. These timing issues can get expensive if left unchecked.

Good news follow-up, took my Blazer to a certified shop and confirmed it was exactly what we discussed. The camshaft position sensor wasn't completely failed, but had a faulty cable connection that was causing those erratic signals. Total repair was 95€, way less than I initially expected. The shop found the wiring connector was loose and corroded, causing those intermittent sensor readings that were triggering the check engine light and rough idling. Since the fix, engine performance is back to normal, no more hard starts or power loss issues. Best part is they didn't need to replace the entire sensor assembly. Just fixing the connection solved all the symptoms we discussed. My advice would be to get it checked soon though, running with faulty sensor signals can mess with engine timing and fuel delivery, which could lead to bigger problems down the road. The car's running perfectly smooth now, no warning lights or rough idling since the repair three weeks ago. Much cheaper fix than I originally feared when dealing with those engine performance issues.

Thanks everyone for the guidance! Wanted to share how it all turned out. Finally got the nerve to take it in yesterday to a new shop that specializes in Chevys. The diagnostic confirmed exactly what was discussed, a failing camshaft position sensor causing those stalling engine issues. The mechanic found corrosion on the sensor's electrical connections, similar to what others mentioned. They cleaned the connections, replaced the sensor, and did a quick check of the surrounding wiring. Total bill came to about €200 including parts and labor. Way better than I expected after reading horror stories online about automotive sensor replacements. Drove it home today and the difference is night and day. No more check engine light, smooth idle, and starts up perfectly. Should have done this weeks ago instead of worrying about it. The engine timing is spot-on now, and all those rough running issues are completely gone. Really glad I asked here first, helped me understand what I was dealing with and gave me confidence to get it fixed before it turned into something more serious. The mechanic even showed me the old sensor and explained how it was affecting the engine performance.
