Thanks for sharing your experience with the temperature sensor repair on your Tiguan. It sounds very similar to my T-Roc issue. My car sensor has been replaced last week and the engine is running much smoother now. Just curious, do you remember the total repair cost for your IAT sensor replacement and harness repair? Also, have you had any related issues pop up since getting it fixed? Mine seems good so far but want to know what to watch out for.

The repair bill came to 155€ for my IAT sensor replacement, quite reasonable considering the diagnostic work needed. Since the fix, my Tiguan has been running perfectly with no temperature sensor issues or engine performance problems. The repair shop did a thorough job testing the air temperature readings with their diagnostic tool after installation. My advice is just to keep an eye on your engine performance during cold starts, as this is when an intake air temperature sensor problem would first show up again. But with a proper repair like you had done, it should be completely resolved. The newer VW sensors are actually quite reliable once properly installed. The air-fuel mixture is spot-on now and fuel economy has returned to normal. Sounds like you had similar positive results with your T-Roc repair. These sensor fixes typically last the lifetime of the vehicle when done correctly.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Wanted to update on how my repair went. Took it to a new shop that specializes in VW diagnostics. They ran a complete intake air system check and found the IAT sensor was indeed faulty, plus some debris around the connector. Total cost came to 180€, bit more than expected but they did a thorough job. The diagnostic tool readings all check out now and the engine runs perfectly smooth, even on cold starts. No more check engine light or power issues. Definitely learned to address car sensor problems quickly rather than waiting. The new mechanic explained everything clearly and showed me the old damaged parts. Much better experience than my previous shop visits. Glad to have this sorted and know what to watch for in the future. The proper repair should last a long time based on what others shared about their fixes.

Had a similar situation with my 2019 VW Tiguan last winter. The intake air temperature sensor failure caused rough idling and power loss, matching your symptoms. The engine temperature sensor sends incorrect readings to the ECU, causing improper fuel mixture. The repair needed a full diagnostic check since air temperature sensors can fail due to multiple reasons. In my case, the wiring harness had corroded, causing inconsistent signals. The fix required replacing both the temperature sensor unit and cleaning the connector pins. This issue can become serious if ignored, incorrect air-fuel mix can damage engine components over time. The temperature sensor itself is a basic part, but access and labor make it more complex. The whole repair took about 2 hours at the shop. Key indicators it was the air sensor: Rough idle especially during cold starts, Check engine light, Inconsistent engine performance, Poor fuel economy, Failed emissions tests Worth getting fixed promptly to prevent additional engine issues. Make sure the shop runs proper diagnostics first since similar symptoms can come from other sensor failures.
