T-Roc A/C Failure: Common Causes & Fix Solutions

My 2021 T-Roc A/C system stopped working completely, no cooling and no compressor engagement. The fault light is on and errors are stored in the system. Looking for advice from others who had similar A/C compressor issues, particularly interested in the actual repair solution. What parts needed replacement and what was the root cause in your case? Currently suspecting the AC relay or pressure sensor could be at fault, but would appreciate real-world experience before heading to the workshop.

Had nearly the same issue on my 2019 T-Cross last summer. Have some experience with basic car maintenance but needed professional help for this one. Initial symptoms matched yours exactly, no cooling, compressor not engaging, warning light on. After checking voltage readings, the workshop found an undervoltage condition affecting the AC relay and pressure switch circuits. The belt tensioner was also showing signs of wear, likely due to the electrical issues putting extra stress on the system. The fix included: Installing new voltage regulator, Replacing AC relay, System diagnostic reset, Full A/C system pressure test Total repair cost was 240€ and took about 3 hours. No A/C compressor replacement needed in my case, though they did check for refrigerant leaks as a precaution. To better assist, could you share: Current mileage, Any unusual sounds when trying to engage A/C, Whether the issue started suddenly or developed gradually, Battery age and condition, Recent electrical system work or battery disconnections These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or points to something different.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My symptoms are indeed very similar. I had my last service at 54450km just a month ago and everything was fine then. The AC problem started suddenly last week with no warning signs or unusual noises. The belt tensioner looked okay during service inspection. The refrigerant leak test at my last service showed normal levels, which makes me think the AC relay or pressure switch might be the culprit, especially given your similar experience with electrical issues. I will have the voltage readings checked as you suggested. My battery is original from 2021 and has never been disconnected or replaced. Looking at your repair costs, that seems reasonable if it turns out to be a similar electrical problem.

Thanks for those additional details. The sudden onset without warning signs does sound very similar to what I experienced with my T-Cross. Since your belt tensioner was recently checked and refrigerant levels are good, the electrical system is likely the primary suspect. What really stands out is that your issue appeared right after the service. In my case, we discovered that even minor voltage fluctuations can trigger the A/C system safety protocols, shutting down the A/C compressor completely. The fact that your battery is original could be significant, while not old, some 2021 models had sensitive voltage regulators that could trip the A/C relay prematurely. Based on the timing, I would strongly suggest having them check: Voltage readings across the AC relay when attempting to engage, Pressure sensor connections for any post-service disturbance, Battery terminal connections for any oxidation The good news is that if its the same electrical issue I encountered, you should be able to avoid any major A/C system components replacement. A simple relay and regulator fix would restore proper function without needing extensive work on the refrigerant circuit or compressor assembly. Would recommend getting these checks done soon before the summer heat arrives. The repair should be similarly priced to what I paid if the diagnosis matches.

Thanks for all the detailed input. Just got back from the workshop and wanted to close this thread with what they found, hoping it helps others. The diagnosis confirmed it was indeed an electrical issue affecting the A/C system. The HVAC system control module was receiving incorrect signals due to a faulty relay switch. They found minor corrosion on the relay contacts which was causing intermittent voltage problems to the A/C compressor. Final repair included: New AC relay switch installation, Electrical system diagnostic reset, A/C system pressure verification, Belt tensioner inspection Total cost came to 220€ with labor. The A/C compressor is working perfectly now with proper cooling. No refrigerant top-up was needed as levels were still good from the recent service. Really appreciate the guidance about checking the electrical components first. Saved time and money by avoiding unnecessary parts replacement. Case closed on this one.
