T-Roc's Multiple Ignition Issues Need Urgent Fix

Thanks for the detailed response. My T-Roc was last serviced 3 months ago at 42952km. I notice the engine starting issues happen mostly during cold starts, and yes, the engine does turn over. The ignition key feels slightly loose when turning it, and there is an intermittent clicking sound from the ignition coil area. No electrical work has been done recently, and the dashboard works normally without flickering. Based on your experience with the blown fuse, I will check the fuse box first. However, the loose key feeling makes me think the car ignition system might need more than a fuse replacement. Would you recommend checking both the ignition switch and fuses during the diagnostic?

Those additional symptoms you describe indeed suggest something more complex than just a blown fuse in my case. The loose ignition key feel combined with the clicking sound from the ignition coil area could indicate wear in the ignition cylinder or issues with the starter motor system. When my Tiguan developed issues later on, the symptoms progressed similarly, starting with just cold start problems but eventually affecting warm starts too. The clicking sound from the ignition coil turned out to be an early warning sign that both the ignition switch and associated wiring needed attention. The final repair on my vehicle included: Full ignition switch replacement, Rewiring of ignition coil connections, New ignition cylinder due to wear Total cost was around 450€ and took about 4 hours to complete. This completely resolved both the starting issues and the loose key feeling. Given your current symptoms, I would strongly recommend having both the ignition switch and the starter circuit checked during diagnostics. A proper inspection of the ignition coil wiring would also be wise, as the clicking sound often indicates a developing electrical issue in that area.

Based on your suggestion and my symptoms, I will schedule a full diagnostic check focusing on the complete ignition system. The loose key and clicking sounds do point toward more than just a fuse issue. Will ask them to inspect the ignition switch, coil wiring, and starter circuit as these seem to be common failure points. Your repair experience helps set realistic expectations, I should probably budget around 500€ and expect the car to be at the workshop for at least half a day. The similarities between our cases make me feel more confident about getting this fixed properly rather than trying temporary solutions. Thanks for sharing the progression of your ignition problems too. It shows I should address this soon before it gets worse. Will update once I get the diagnostic results and know exactly what needs replacing in my ignition system.

Having some experience with car electronics, I encountered almost identical issues with my VW Tiguan 2019. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, intermittent starting problems and unusual engine shutoffs. After checking the car electronics, my workshop found that a simple blown fuse was causing the ignition switch to malfunction. The total repair cost was 52€, which covered diagnostic time and fuse replacement. The fix took under an hour and resolved all starting issues completely. Before you head to a workshop, it would be helpful to know: Are there any patterns when the starting issue occurs (cold starts vs warm engine)? Does the engine turn over when you try to start it? Have you noticed any flickering dashboard lights before the problems started? Have you had any recent electrical work done on the car? While the symptoms point to an ignition switch problem, a proper diagnostic is essential since multiple components in the starting system could cause similar issues. The engine start problems you describe might be related to different parts of the ignition system.
