T-Cross Engine Stalling and Poor Performance Fix Needed

My T-Cross started acting up lately with really bad fuel consumption and keeps stalling when idle. When I hit the gas, it blows out smoke and feels seriously underpowered. The last mechanic I went to just changed the air filter but didnt fix anything. Could this be an injection system issue? Car is from 2020 with about 17000km on it. Any advice on getting this properly diagnosed and fixed? Starting to worry about serious engine damage if I keep driving it like this.

Having experienced similar symptoms with my T-Roc 2018, this sounds like a classic fuel injection system problem. The combination of poor fuel consumption, stalling, and smoke points to either faulty injectors or compromised electrical connections to the injection system. In my case, the engine control unit was receiving incorrect signals due to a damaged wiring harness connecting to the fuel injectors. The insulation had worn through, causing intermittent connection issues. The System would then deliver incorrect amounts of fuel, leading to the same symptoms you describe. While an air filter replacement was a logical first step, the problem likely requires a proper diagnostic scan of the injection system. The smoke during acceleration typically indicates the engine is running rich, getting too much fuel at the wrong times. This is a maintenance issue that needs addressing soon, but it is not immediately catastrophic for the engine. However, continued operation could lead to carbon buildup and potential damage to the catalytic converter. The repair requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly test the injection system and its electrical connections. A complete injector cleaning service might also be necessary if debris has accumulated in the system. A qualified technician with the right diagnostic tools should be able to pinpoint whether the issue lies with the injectors themselves, their electrical connections, or the control module.

Thanks for the detailed explanation of the injection system fault! Your T-Roc issue sounds exactly like what my VW is experiencing. After getting it checked, the mechanic also found wiring issues with the injection system that were causing the power loss and smoke problems. Getting it properly repaired definitely restored the petrol economy and performance back to normal. Did you have any other related maintenance issues pop up since the repair? Also curious about the repair cost if you remember, would help me get an idea what to expect when I take it in.

Good news, since getting the injection system fault fixed on my T-Roc, performance has been completely back to normal. The repair turned out to be quite straightforward, just needed a new cable connection to the injection system which cost 95€. Much cheaper than I initially feared. The engine response and petrol consumption are now exactly as they should be. No smoke issues or power loss since the repair, and it has been running smoothly for several months. The key was finding a mechanic who properly diagnosed the electrical connection problem rather than just changing filters. No other related issues have come up since the fix. The initial symptoms can seem scary, but once the faulty connection is sorted, the engine runs like new again. Regular maintenance checks keep everything working properly. Worth noting that catching these injection system issues early helps prevent any long-term engine damage or further repairs down the line.

After your helpful advice, I took my T-Cross to a different mechanic who specializes in fuel injection systems. They found damaged wiring similar to what you described, the connection to the injectors was compromised causing the system to malfunction. The total repair came to 120€ which included diagnosing the fault and replacing the damaged wiring harness. Much better than I expected given how badly it was running. The difference in performance is incredible. No more smoke, the engine runs smoothly at idle, and my fuel consumption is back to normal. The petrol gauge actually moves normally now instead of dropping like a stone. Really glad I got it properly diagnosed instead of throwing parts at it. The mechanic showed me the worn wiring and explained how it was affecting the injection system. Makes total sense now why just changing the air filter did nothing to help. A good reminder to find a qualified technician when dealing with complex fuel system issues rather than quick fixes that dont address the root cause.
