Symptoms of a possible defective tank ventilation valve in a 2008 Mercedes SL-Class

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Shaking while idling

Hi folks, I'm driving a 2008 Mercedes SL-Class with 152,314 km on the clock and I'm worried because the indicator light is on, the engine power is reduced, the engine runs unevenly, the car jerks when accelerating, misfires when idling and vibrates even when stationary. I recently had a less-than-ideal visit to the garage and now suspect that the tank ventilation valve could be broken. Have any of you experienced similar symptoms with your car and what did you do? What was your experience with the garage? I look forward to your answers and experiences. Thank you very much!

Hello, I drive a 2005 Mercedes CL-Class and also had similar problems. In my case, the hoses were clogged. Last time at the garage, the guys simply replaced the tank ventilation valve and the associated hoses. The engine then ran smoothly again and the misfiring was also gone. It wasn't an overly serious problem, but still something that shouldn't be ignored. So I can only recommend that you drive to the nearest Benz mechanic and have it checked. It's probably the tank vent valve or the hoses, so don't worry too much. Take care!

Hello, thank you for your reply and the help. I'm a little reassured to hear your experience. Do you happen to remember how much you paid to repair the tank vent valve and hoses? And have you had any other problems since then, or has everything gone smoothly? Thanks again and take care!

Hello, no problem, you're welcome! The repair for the hoses cost me around 175 euros. That wasn't a penny, but since then my Benz has been running like a kitten again. You were right about the tank ventilation valve, it was indeed defective, and since the workshop treatment everything has been working perfectly again. So I'm really pleased with that! To date, no further problems have arisen and everything is running smoothly. I hope it stays that way and that everything goes smoothly for you too! Best regards and drive safely.

Hi, 175 euros sounds pretty fair considering the symptoms. Your feedback has reassured me and I'm glad everything is going smoothly for you. I will take my car to a garage as soon as possible to have it checked. I also hope that after the repair, everything will run as it did for you. Thanks again for the advice and stay safe on the road!
