Symptoms of a possible boost pressure system fault in the 2014 Renault Fluence Diesel

Unsteady engine

Loud hissing on acceleration

Whistling noise

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Shaking while idling

Hey guys, I'm sitting here with my 2014 Renault Fluence Diesel that has 82517 km on the odometer and have recently noticed a few worrying symptoms. When accelerating the exhaust smokes black, the check engine light is on and the engine power is weak. I have also noticed that the engine runs rough, the car jerks when accelerating and hisses when accelerating. The engine frequently dies at idle and the car also shakes when idling. And to top it all off, there is also a whistling noise. I assume that the boost pressure system is giving up the ghost, but after an unpleasant experience with the last mechanic, I wanted to ask for advice here first. Has anyone had similar experiences? How have your experiences been with your mechanics in such cases? Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance!

Hey, so it was very similar with my 2011 Renault Mégane. Same black smoking when accelerating, engine power very weak and the damn whistle was there too. I was ready to throw the car away! I took it to the garage anyway and they found mechanical damage to the turbocharger. You guessed it right, the boost pressure system was also out of order. Yes, that was a serious problem - not just a new air filter or something. They got the turbocharger running again and it's been quiet ever since. No jerking, no hissing, no whistling. Runs like a champ again. I know it sounds like a big deal, but don't hang your head. Take the car to the garage and have it looked over. Hopefully it's only the turbocharger that's broken - it's annoying, but it can be fixed. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. Sure, that helps me a bit. I was toying with the idea of fixing everything on my own, but maybe it really is better to take the car to the garage. I'm glad to hear that your car is running well again. Can you remember how much you paid for the repair at the time? And have you had any further problems since then, or has everything gone smoothly? Thank you!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you a bit. I remember that I paid almost exactly 1070 euros to repair the mechanical damage to the turbocharger. Of course, it was a lot of money, but since then my car has been running smoothly again. At first I was skeptical whether this was the right way to go, but after the mechanic fixed the malfunction in the boost pressure system, all the problems were gone. There is no more jerking or hissing and the whistling has also gone. To be honest, everything has been great since then, no more problems. So, cheer up and take it to the garage! It's really worth it. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your help and clarification! 1070 euros is a lot of money, but if the car runs smoothly afterwards, it seems worth it. I will definitely go to the garage now and get it checked out. Fingers crossed that everything goes as smoothly for me as it did for you. Thanks again for your advice and sharing your experience. It has really helped me! Bye and all the best!
