Loss of engine power

Hey guys, I have a question about my 2018 Toyota Auris with gasoline engine and almost 31506 KM on the clock. I recently noticed a few strange symptoms with my car - black clouds of smoke when accelerating, the check engine light comes on, the engine just stalls, loss of power, the engine runs rough, it jerks when accelerating, my fuel consumption is high and the exhaust smells awful. Oh yes, and it also stalls when idling. I suspect that it could be the fuel pump. Has anyone ever had similar experiences with their car and can give me a tip? I don't really want to go back to my garage after my last horror experience... Thanks in advance!

Hi buddy, I feel you. Have had a 2015 Toyota Avensis and had exactly the same symptoms with my car. My mechanic eventually determined that it was actually the fuel pump module that was faulty. It wasn't an easy process to diagnose it, but it ended up being the main problem. The symptoms you describe are pretty much the same as what I experienced. It was a pretty serious thing, I thought at the time. My car just stalled several times on the way to work, and the jerking when accelerating was pretty annoying. Fortunately, they were able to remove the module and replace it with a new one. After that, the car ran like clockwork again, no more black clouds of smoke, no jerking, the idling was stable and the fuel consumption returned to normal. So yes, I would definitely have the fuel pump checked. It's a bummer when something like this happens, especially if you've already had a bad experience with the garage, but it really sounds like this could be your problem. I hope this helps a bit and good luck with your Auris!

Hey, thanks for the tip! It really sounds like it could be the same problem. Do you happen to remember what you paid for it back then? And has anything else happened since then or has your car been running really smoothly since then?

Hey, of course I still remember. The repair cost me around €640 at the time, most of which went on the new fuel pump module. But hey, since the thing was replaced, my car has been running like a bee again. No jerking, no sudden stalling, no exhaust bucket from hell - none of that anymore. So I'd say it was really worth the money. Hope you have a similar experience and that your Auris is back in top form afterwards. Good luck, buddy!

Oh cool, thanks for the info! 640 is a lot of money, but if my car runs properly again afterwards, it's probably worth it. You've really helped me, so I'll probably have to go back to the garage after all. I hope I'll have the confidence to go there again. Thanks again for your help and I wish you continued trouble-free driving with your Avensis!
