Suzuki Splash Steering Failure Points to Sensor Issues

Looking for help with my 2009 Suzuki Splash steering issues. The steering wheel has become very heavy to turn and noticeably vibrates while driving. My research points to a possible steering angle sensor failure, which might explain why the power steering feels off. Has anyone dealt with a similar sensor replacement on this model? Curious about the repair process, costs involved, and whether there might be related traction control issues I should watch for. Any tips on confirming if the angle sensor is actually the culprit before heading to a workshop would be really helpful. Also interested in hearing how long the repair typically takes and if there are any common alignment problems afterward.

Having dealt with a similar issue on my 2011 Suzuki Swift, I can share some relevant experience. Like you, I noticed heavy steering and vibrations, which turned out to be related to a faulty steering angle sensor coding. The workshop diagnosed the problem using their diagnostic equipment to confirm the sensor failure. The entire repair process took about 2 hours and cost me 195€, including the recalibration of the new sensor. After the fix, both the steering response and traction control system worked perfectly again. A few tips from my experience: The steering sensor issue often triggers warning lights on the dashboard, The power steering might feel inconsistent at different speeds, Traction control may become unreliable or deactivate completely, A proper wheel alignment check is recommended after the sensor replacement To help further with your specific case, could you provide: Are there any warning lights on your dashboard? Does the steering feel heavier at certain speeds? When did you last have a wheel alignment done? Have you noticed any changes in the traction control system? The symptoms you describe match my experience, but getting these details would help confirm if you are dealing with the same steering sensor problem I encountered.

Thanks for sharing that experience. My last service was 3 months ago at 87210 KM, and I am also seeing dashboard warning lights, particularly the electronic stability control light. The steering definitely feels heavier at lower speeds, especially when parking. The wheel alignment was actually checked during the last service but they found no issues. My traction control seems to activate out of nowhere now, even on dry roads. After hearing about your repair process and costs, I will book an appointment to have the steering sensor specifically checked. Good to know the fix took only 2 hours in your case. The 195€ cost seems reasonable if it resolves both the steering and traction control problems.

Thanks for the additional details. Those symptoms definitely mirror what I experienced with my Swift. The unusual traction control activation and electronic stability control warning light were exactly what I dealt with before the sensor replacement. The fact your wheel alignment checked out during the recent service actually strengthens the case for a faulty steering angle sensor. In my situation, the sensor was sending incorrect signals to the stability control system, causing those unusual traction control activations you mentioned. After my sensor replacement, the steering column operation returned to normal, and all those electronic stability warnings disappeared. Make sure the workshop performs proper sensor calibration after installation, mine initially had some quirks until they recoded it properly. One tip from my repair experience: while they have the steering column open for the sensor replacement, ask them to check the surrounding components. In my case, they spotted and fixed a minor wiring issue that could have caused problems later. The 195€ I paid included diagnostic time, but since you have similar symptoms, you might get a slightly better rate. The repair has lasted over 18 months now with no steering or traction control issues since.

Thanks for sharing those specific details about your repair experience. Since I'm seeing the same warning lights and unusual traction control activation you mentioned, I feel more confident about getting this checked. The steering angle sensor seems to be the likely culprit, especially since my wheel alignment is confirmed good from the recent service. I will definitely make sure they check the surrounding components in the steering column while doing the sensor replacement. Good tip about ensuring proper sensor calibration too, I will specifically ask about that when booking the appointment. The automotive sensors in these models seem pretty reliable overall, so hopefully this will be a one-time fix like in your case. Even with diagnostic fees, the repair cost sounds reasonable if it sorts out both the steering and stability issues. I just want to get back to normal steering feel without those concerning vibrations and unusual traction control activations. Will book the appointment tomorrow and get this sorted. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped confirm what I was suspecting about the angle sensor being the source of these problems.
