Suzuki Ignis E-Brake Failure: Common Causes & Fixes

Having issues with the electronic parking brake on my 2017 Suzuki Ignis. The brake control system seems completely dead, no response when engaging or releasing. The dash shows a brake fault warning light and I know there are error codes stored. Looking for anyone who has dealt with similar electronic brake problems on their Ignis. Specifically wondering what components needed replacing and rough repair costs. Any guidance on common causes for parking brake system glitches would be really helpful. Has anyone faced this and gotten it fixed?

Had nearly identical electronic brake issues with my 2015 Suzuki Swift last winter. Have some experience working on basic car maintenance, but this was definitely beyond DIY territory. The parking brake completely stopped responding, showing the same brake warning indicators. After diagnostic testing, the workshop found the electronic brake motor in the brake caliper had failed. This is a critical vehicle safety component that requires proper repair. The brake sensor was reporting faults and the entire brake switch mechanism needed professional attention. Total repair came to 505€ including parts, labor and diagnostic testing. Workshop completed it in about 4 hours. What engine size does your Ignis have? Also, have you noticed any unusual sounds when trying to engage the parking brake before it failed completely? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced. To be thorough, recommend having them check: Brake caliper motor function, Electronic control unit connections, Parking brake activation switch, Related brake sensors and wiring Would help to know if you have any stored error codes from diagnostics. Those codes can point to specific components in the electronic brake system that need attention.

Last service was at 75000 KM in December and currently at 77086 KM. Your experience matches my symptoms exactly. Started hearing a clicking noise from the rear brakes about 2 weeks before complete failure. The brake control module gives no response now. My mechanic already pulled the codes showing caliper motor faults. Good to know the repair costs are reasonable. The electronic brake issues are definitely concerning from a vehicle safety perspective, especially since this seems to be a known problem. Going to schedule the repair next week. Hoping the parking brake fix will be straightforward like in your case.

Thanks for those additional details. The clicking sound you mentioned is exactly what I experienced before total brake failure, it's a classic sign of the electronic parking brake motor starting to go. Really similar pattern to my Swift, right down to the timing of about 2 weeks from first noise to complete system shutdown. Since your brake diagnostics already confirmed caliper motor faults, you are likely looking at the same repair I needed. The system glitch symptoms match perfectly. At your mileage, this is actually a fairly common timing for these electronic brake components to need replacement. Important tip based on my experience: make sure they perform a full brake diagnostics test after the repair. My workshop found some additional brake sensor calibration was needed after the new parts were installed to fully clear the brake fault warnings. The repair should be pretty routine for them since these electronic parking brake issues are well documented. The 4-hour job time I mentioned earlier included that final testing phase, which is crucial for proper brake system function. When you get it done, the brake switch and motor should work like new, no more clicking sounds or warning lights. Best to address it promptly though, since these brake failure symptoms tend to get worse quickly.

Thank you for sharing those repair costs and timeline details. The clicking noise definitely matches what you experienced, and it's reassuring to know this is a relatively common brake control module issue at this mileage. I will get it booked in for repair next week. My workshop confirmed they can access all the brake diagnostics and handle the full calibration after replacing the faulty components. They estimated about 520€ total including the post-repair sensor testing and calibration. Really helpful to know about the additional brake sensor checks needed. Will make sure they do a complete system test once the new brake switch and motor are installed. Better to get these electronic brake issues fixed properly now before they cause bigger problems. Just hoping for a smooth repair process like you had. Thanks for confirming the symptoms and sharing your repair experience. Definitely helped me understand what to expect with fixing these parking brake system glitches.
