Suzuki Carry Engine Stalls: Fuel Vent System Alert

Thanks for sharing that experience. My 2020 Carry had identical issues too, stalling at idle and the check engine light flashing. Turned out the purge valve was completely clogged, restricting proper air flow through the emission control system. After reading about your charcoal canister problems, I am wondering if I should have had mine checked as well. The mechanic only replaced the purge valve at the time. Could you remember roughly how much the full repair cost in your case? Also, have you noticed any similar issues popping up since the fix? My fuel tank pressure has been normal since the repair, but I want to make sure I am not missing anything important for the long term.

Good to hear back from you. After my initial post about the Swift issues, I had no problems return. The emission control system has worked flawlessly since replacing the charcoal canister and checking all related components. The total repair on my vehicle came to 275€ for the defective activated charcoal filter replacement. This completely resolved the fuel tank ventilation system leak that was causing my problems. The pressure sensor readings have remained stable, and the system failure indicators never returned. In your case, since the purge valve was already replaced, you might want to monitor your fuel efficiency for the next few weeks. If you notice any decrease or smell fuel vapors, that could indicate the charcoal canister needs inspection. But if your pressure readings are normal and no check engine light has returned, the purge valve replacement might have been sufficient to fix your specific issue.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to share how this worked out. Found a new certified mechanic who properly diagnosed the EVAP system issue. The purge valve replacement alone did the trick, cost me 180€ including diagnostic fees. During inspection, they pressure tested the entire fuel tank ventilation system and confirmed the charcoal canister was still in good shape. Been driving for three weeks now without any check engine warnings or stalling problems. Fuel efficiency is back to normal too. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who just kept resetting the warning lights without fixing anything. The new shop took time to explain the diagnostic process and showed me the clogged purge valve. Definitely keeping them for future repairs.

Had the same symptoms on a 2017 Suzuki Swift with the 1.4L gas engine. The EVAP system was failing due to a defective activated charcoal filter, causing similar stalling issues at idle. The leak detection pump found multiple small cracks in the charcoal canister. This component is crucial for emission control and fuel efficiency, as it captures and recycles fuel vapors. The failing system was allowing raw fuel vapors to escape instead of being properly recycled back to the engine. The fix required replacing the entire charcoal canister assembly and purge valve. Not a complex repair for experienced technicians, but the diagnosis process was thorough to rule out other fuel system issues. The repair resolved both the check engine light and the stalling problem. This is a significant issue that should be addressed promptly, as it affects both engine performance and emissions. Suggest finding a shop that specializes in fuel system diagnostics and has experience with Suzuki EVAP systems. They should perform a complete system pressure test before replacing parts. The symptoms you describe match exactly with a compromised charcoal canister, especially considering your vehicle age and mileage. Would recommend getting it checked soon to prevent additional fuel system damage.
