Support wanted! Skoda Yeti 2014 (diesel): Black smoke, engine light, loss of power and high fuel consumption

Loud hissing on acceleration

Whistling noise

Check engine light on

|

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

|

Strong exhaust smell

|

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

|

Jerking on acceleration

Hello everyone! My 2014 Skoda Yeti (diesel) is really acting up. It smokes black when accelerating, the engine light is on, noticeable loss of power, jerks when accelerating, sounds like a hissing boiler, swallows a lot of fuel, smells grossly of exhaust fumes and whistles. I suspect that there could be a problem with the boost pressure control. Do you have any experience with this? How did you get this solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? I'm grateful for any tips!

Moin moin, I drive a 2016 Skoda Octavia (diesel) and I had exactly the same problem as you. Sounds like the boost pressure regulator. I drove the car to the garage with my eyes open, even though I don't have much experience yet. They read out the error there and tadaaaa, boost pressure actuator mechanically defective. That sort of thing... It cost me 1520 euros - a reasonable price, if you ask me... Could you perhaps provide a bit more information about your car? All in all, further questions are always welcome!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the information. Seems like I guessed right about the boost pressure regulator. Well, 1520 euros isn't exactly cheap, but if it helps... It's a Skoda Yeti, built in 2014, diesel, with just over 88,000 km on it now. I'd have to look up the exact chassis number again, but the model is the Yeti 2.0 TDI PD. Thanks again for your help! I'll go to the garage tomorrow and hope for the best.

Hi, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it really is the boost pressure regulator. My 2015 Skoda Superb (also diesel) had exactly the same symptoms. Black smoke, loss of power, this hissing, increased fuel consumption, exhaust smell and the whistling. At first I thought it was something really bad, but at the workshop it turned out that the boost pressure regulator was broken. The defect meant that the turbocharger wasn't working properly, hence all the faults. The cost to me was also around 1500 euros, give or take. But after the replacement, the car ran like clockwork again. So, I would say it's an expensive but necessary repair. So, if it really is the boost pressure regulator, have the part replaced. I've had good experiences at my garage, they figured out what it was straight away. Good luck tomorrow at the workshop and hopefully your problem can be solved soon. Best regards!

Hello, thank you very much for the input. I sincerely hope that it's just the boost pressure regulator. It seems to have been the same problem with your car. I'm not a car professional, so I'm grateful for any tips. The estimated 1500 euros is of course a lot of money, but to be honest, my Yeti is worth it to me. If the car runs smoothly again afterwards, then it has to be. Your experience with the garage sounds really positive. I hope that the people at my garage are just as competent and helpful as yours. I will of course go straight to the garage tomorrow and have it checked. Thanks again for the information and support, have a great day!
