Stuck Infiniti Q Convertible Top: Help & Mechanic Needed

Convertible top cannot be opened or closed

|

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone, having some trouble with my 2013 Infiniti Q Diesel (231K km). The convertible top is completely stuck won't open or close and there's a warning light on my dash. I think it might be a calibration issue with the sunroof, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would love to hear about your experiences and recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Infiniti convertible systems. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Infiniti Q60 Diesel last summer (now at 198K km). The convertible system completely froze up, showing the same warning light. Took it to my regular Infiniti specialist turns out it wasn't just a calibration problem like I initially thought. The control module needed reprogramming, and they found a faulty sensor in the hydraulic system that was causing the whole mechanism to lock up. The repair involved a full diagnostic scan, coding update for the convertible top module, and replacing that sensor. It was pretty serious since the whole system was at risk of getting damaged if I'd kept trying to operate it. They had to order some specific parts, so my car was at the shop for about 3 days. If you're near , I can recommend the specialist who fixed mine. They're certified for Infiniti and really know their stuff when it comes to convertible systems. Better get it checked soon before it causes more problems.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Quick question do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? And has everything been working smoothly since then? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and if it's likely to be a one-and-done fix.

Hey again! Yes, actually I'm happy to report that everything's been working perfectly since the repair! The whole thing ended up being much simpler (and cheaper) than I initially described in my first reply. Turns out it was just the sunroof calibration issue after all the mechanic found that it hadn't been trained correctly during a previous service. They did a complete coding reset and recalibration of the system, which only cost me 75€ in total. No need for any replacement parts or complex repairs like I was worried about at first. The whole thing took less than an hour, and I've had zero issues with the convertible top since then. It opens and closes smooth as butter now! I know I mentioned a bunch of other potential problems in my first response, but honestly, sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. My advice would be to get it checked out sooner rather than later these things tend to be pretty straightforward fixes if you catch them early. Let me know if you need that mechanic's contact info again!

What a relief! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and you won't believe it my fix was even simpler than yours! Turns out there was just a small fuse issue that was causing the whole system to act up. The mechanic found it within minutes, replaced the fuse, and gave everything a quick check. Total cost was only 45€, and I was in and out in about 30 minutes. The convertible top is working perfectly now no more warning lights or sticking issues. I feel kind of silly for worrying so much about it, but after my last bad experience with repairs, I guess I was expecting the worst. Thanks again for your help and for sharing your experience it really gave me the push I needed to get it checked out right away instead of putting it off. Really glad I didn't wait any longer as it could've led to bigger problems. For anyone else reading this who might have similar issues don't hesitate to get it checked out! Sometimes these scary-looking problems have super simple solutions.
