Strange symptoms with Seat Altea: Weak light and warning light on the speedometer

Hi everyone, I'm a bit worried about my Seat Altea, built in 2017, with a petrol engine and 44,050 kilometers on the clock. My car is showing some strange symptoms, such as dim or flickering lights and a warning light in the speedometer. I recently had a bad experience with my mechanic so I think it might be due to faulty software on the car. Have any of you had similar problems and how was this handled at the garage? Appreciate any experiences and tips!

Summary of the thread

A Seat Altea owner is experiencing dim or flickering lights and a warning light on the speedometer, suspecting faulty software as the cause. Another person with a similar issue in a Seat Leon found the problem was related to the alternator and battery, not software, and required replacement. The suggested solution is to have the car's fault memory read and check the alternator and battery, as these components might be causing the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I can understand that a bit. I have a Seat Leon from 2015 and the last time I was in the garage, my car also had a flickering light and a warning light in the speedometer was illuminated. The guys at the garage first read out the fault memory. It turned out that there was a problem with my alternator and battery - probably nothing to do with software. They had to be replaced. Of course, it's never nice when it happens to you, but check it out. It could be something similar in your case. Pretty serious, but doable. Hope this helps you a little!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. This is actually very similar to what's going on with my Altea. I'd be interested to know how deep you had to dig into your pockets for this? Have you had any other problems since replacing the alternator and battery? I really appreciate your help!

Hey, no problem, always welcome! I really had to dig deep into my pockets. It cost €1000 to repair the faulty engine control unit. But since I've been to the mechanic, the problem with the car's software has been fixed. So yes, it was an expensive affair, but I haven't had any further problems since. I hope this helps you and fingers crossed it doesn't end up being that expensive on your Altea. But definitely get it checked, safety first!

Wow, that's quite a sum indeed, thanks for the clarity. It puts me under a bit of pressure, but you're absolutely right, safety always comes first. You've really helped me a lot, I really appreciate it! I will actually make an appointment with the mechanic soon and hope it won't be that expensive. Thanks again for your help and advice!
